EDU 365:
Assessment & Planning in Special Education
Assessment & Planning in Special Education
Summary of Project:
I designed and implemented this RISE course during the Fall 2023 semester at a local university, starting with source material from the previous professor and defined learning objectives required by the program.
Since I did not have the opportunity to gather information about my learners prior to the start of the course, I moved directly into the Design phase, prototyping the course in RISE and the BRIDGES LMS.
I aimed to create a balanced scope and sequence with engaging materials (lectures, readings, multimedia, and interactive activities) tailored for adult learners. As course facilitator, I ensured organized content aligned with learning objectives.
Moving into Development, I encountered limitations with Storyline packages in the LMS but leveraged various tools to foster interactive face-to-face and remote learning experiences.
After the first meeting, I refined the course based on survey data that audience analysis and learner personas, providing clear instructions and support. Throughout, I facilitated discussions, led activities, and offered timely feedback to promote collaboration and engagement.
Evaluation of the Course:
At the end of the semester, I also asked my learners to retake the beginning of semester survey and to provide feedback about the course to inform my future learning solutions.
All of my students completed and passed their comprehensive exams and earned grades between 78%-96% in the course.
Each learner was able to access the materials and demonstrate mastery of the skills addressed within the ILT and eLearning opportunities.
Results:
I plan to developing a participant and facilitator guide prior to teaching this course again.
I have learned more about authoring tools and would be more apt to embed Storyline elements into my RISE materials and/or create more videos clips using tools like Premier Pro or Vyond.
I would also like to provide more models using video clips on given topics to supplement readings.
I would also like to provide more time for hands-on experimentation with the assessment tools with ILT.
