First animation
No changes were made from the tutorial in Chapter 2 of Derakhshani (2024).
Second animation
I created a disco for the Solar System with the following changes:
I added textures sourced online (cited below) to the Solar System. The Sun has a texture similar to the tiles on a disco ball and the planets and moons have glittery textures. I used the Blinn material to add shine to the surfaces.
I added eight spotlights above the Solar System. There are two each of red, blue, green, and yellow spotlights which all point toward the Sun.
I added keyframes changing the values of the planets and moons' Translate Y and Scale Y attributes to give them the appearance of dancing.
I also added a cylinder for the disco ball wire, gave the Sun its own rotation, and further staggered the orbits of the planets to make orbits closer to the Sun faster.
(1) Textures of the Sun and some of the planets and moons with default lighting (left) and with the spotlights applied (right).
(2) The eight spotlights, represented by red cones.
(3) Frame 60 (left) and frame 75 (right). Planets and moons move up and down and stretch and squash along the y-axis as they orbit the Sun.
Textures Used
All textures used in this project were sourced from texturelabs.org. They are Metal 250, Paper 194, Paper 198, Paper 200, Paper 201, Paper 202, and Stone 143.
