When The software for this device has been successfully installed appears, click Close. If you are running Windows in 64-bit mode, you MUST boot your computer as following both when installing the USB-Blaster driver AND when using Quartus to program your PLD.

I have a de0-nano and it has a built in USB blaster. How can I configure this to work with Quartus II? Currently in the programmer I can't see an option to use it and googling hasn't been fruitful (welcome to fpgas)

After my computer was up and running I hooked up the cyclone to power and my computer. Went to device manager, updated the driver using the USB-Blaster file in the Quartus folder. It asks for the permissions, and then I get an error. Pictures below show images of what I did and what the error says. One of the error messages has a learn more option and it says that I might need to turn off Memory Integrity, but that doesn't look like a solution for the long term.

Hi there,

This is my first little bit into FPGAs from having a lot of background in microcontrollers. I bought a STEP MAX10 FPGA board that uses the 10M08 chip. I went ahead and installed the latest quartus prime and it prompted me to install the USB blaster II driver and it seemed to go well. However after looking at the device manager, it showed there were no drivers installed for the "USB Blaster" in the device list. So I followed the instructions on _USB_Blaster_II_Driver_Installation_Instructions

and it just threw me an error saying "Windows cannot install your USB blaster".

No matter what I tried, even using a different source for drivers, including subfolders and selecting higher directories, windows refused to let me move on to installing the driver. I'm losing my mind, has anyone figured this out?

If there is the need to change the JTAG clock frequency, copy the file "arrow_usb_blaster.conf" and adjust the frequency to your needs.

The programmer shared library uses the FTDI library libftd2xx version 1.4.8 which is statically linked.

The programmer shared library for Linux has been developed and tested under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. However it should also work with other Linux distributions.

Just to complete this topic, I believe the Altera USB blaster uses the same FTDI USB chip that the EVM uses. There was likely some confusion between the programming software and the SPI gui about which USB chip to grab. Note that once a USB handle is connected, Windows will no longer show it as a free USB port.

Hi, I am running Vista. Your colleague send me some instructions for Windows 7. Unfortunately, I did't have all the hardware since I got the instructions, so I didn't try it yet. When I connected the board first time, the drivers installed by themselves, not like in the instructions. I have the feeling that I just need to change in the properties that the driver does not use VCP.

The instructions for Windows 7 don't work on Windows Vista...

I followed the instructions. It was slightly different then described, in the way that the driver installed by himself, after that I wanted to update the driver with the one from FTDI, but it said that I allready have that driver. Then I unchecked "load VCP" and reinstalled the software but it is not working.

What else could be the problem for this error?

After the Quartus II and Nios II software packages are installed, you can plug the BeMicro SDK board into your USB port. Your Windows PC will find the new hardware and try to install the driver.

Since Windows cannot locate the driver for the device the automatic installation will fail and the driver has to be installed manually. In the Device Manager right click on the USB-Blaster device and select Update Driver Software.

Here is my problem. After connecting the USB Blaster to my Win7 computer for the first time and installing the driver from altera\11.1sp2\quartus\drivers, the USB Blaster shows up in the control panel as "USB-Blaster(Altera)" but Quartus II doesn't show it in the Programmer's Hardware Setup page.

In troubleshooting, I also tried installing the same version of Quartus II and the USB blaster on my Win10 laptop, but the driver isn't signed for win10 so I dropped that approach. Back on the Win7 computer I tried using the command prompt to open altera\11.2sp2\quartus\bin\jtagconfig.exe and saw it read out the message "No JTAG hardware available".

Find \quartus\drivers\ (Note 1: Your altera file is located at the location you selected when you first installed quartus. The location listed in this document is the default location) (Note 2: Stop at the drivers folder, i.e., do NOT go deeper by opening a folder within the drivers folder. This is important.) Select OK.

One of these products is the Total Phase Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter. Altera has expressed that they will resolve the conflict in a future software upgrade. In the meantime, Total Phase has provided this package for users to update their Altera USB Blaster driver such that it does not conflict with the Aardvark I2C/SPI Host Adapter.

Altera DE0 Nano contains a very good software/tool which actually is a control panel. It gives you an easy platform to make sure that the Development board is functioning properly. This blog post will have details on configuring the control panel and installing USB blaster drivers.

First of all you need to download few softwares in order to do anything with the board. The package it self contains all the software but somewhat older versions. Instead if you have resources you can directly download the software from Altera website following the link below.

Once you installed everything then you can connect the board using the USB cable. Then windows will try to install the driver for the USB blaster and in my case it failed. So i had to go to the device manager and manually install or rather show windows where the drivers are located. You might need to do that, the path for the drivers is,

The package from seller also contains several sample .sof (SRAM Object File) files, which is a binary format used by the board programmer. I wanted to load them on the device, one needs to use Quartus Prime Programmer to do that, with the USB blaster connected between the computer and the board. The board obviously needs to be powered on by a separate micro USB cable. 2351a5e196
