In Ancient Greek, alpha was pronounced [a] and could be either phonemically long ([a]) or short ([a]). Where there is ambiguity, long and short alpha are sometimes written with a macron and breve today: , .

The letter alpha represents various concepts in physics and chemistry, including alpha radiation, angular acceleration, alpha particles, alpha carbon and strength of electromagnetic interaction (as fine-structure constant). Alpha also stands for thermal expansion coefficient of a compound in physical chemistry. It is also commonly used in mathematics in algebraic solutions representing quantities such as angles. Furthermore, in mathematics, the letter alpha is used to denote the area underneath a normal curve in statistics to denote significance level[4] when proving null and alternative hypotheses. In ethology, it is used to name the dominant individual in a group of animals. In aerodynamics, the letter is used as a symbol for the angle of attack of an aircraft and the word "alpha" is used as a synonym for this property. In mathematical logic,  is sometimes used as a placeholder for ordinal numbers.

The Phoenician alphabet was adopted for Greek in the early 8th century BC, perhaps in Euboea.[5] The majority of the letters of the Phoenician alphabet were adopted into Greek with much the same sounds as they had had in Phoenician, but leph, the Phoenician letter representing the glottal stop [],was adopted as representing the vowel [a]; similarly, h [h] and ayin [] are Phoenician consonants that became Greek vowels, epsilon [e] and omicron [o], respectively.

As the first letter of the alphabet, Alpha as a Greek numeral came to represent the number 1.Therefore, Alpha, both as a symbol and term, is used to refer to the "first", or "primary", or "principal" (most significant) occurrence or status of a thing.

The New Testament has God declaring himself to be the "Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." (Revelation 22:13, KJV, and see also 1:8).[non-primary source needed]

Alpha measures the excess return above a benchmark for an investment, while beta is the measure of volatility, also known as risk. Active investors seek to achieve alpha returns by employing unique strategies.

In finance, specifically in trading and investing, what is considered a good alpha will vary depending on the goal of the investor and the risk tolerance. Generally, a good alpha is one that is greater than zero when adjusted for risk.

A negative alpha in stocks means that a stock is underperforming the benchmark when adjusted for risk. If an investor is intending to match or outperform a specific benchmark and their investment portfolio is performing under that rate, then their alpha is negative.

Welcome to the NGS National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) Modernization Alpha Product Release Site. This site provides examples of the content, format, and structure of data and products that NGS plans to release as a part of the Modernized NSRS.

Preliminary release of the third generation of the State Plane Coordinate System. SPCS2022 will be referenced to the 2022 NSRS Terrestrial Reference Frames to support surveying, engineering, and mapping activities in the Modernized NSRS.

An alpha version of NCAT that supports coordinate conversions for the preliminary State Plane Coordinate Sysytem of 2022. Transformations between existing and modernized NSRS reference frames and datums will be added to a later version.

Euler Pole Parameters (EPP) are needed to define the relationship between the ITRF2020 and models on the North America, Caribbean, Pacific and Mariana plates as discussed in Blueprint Part 1. The values in this table serve as an Alpha version for software and model testing.

i got my alpha about 2 weeks ago (in April 2024 for those of you from the future) and i've been writing with it happily whenever i get the time. it has a good keyboard, starts up instantly and has as yet not lost any of my work (one reads horror stories online about this happening to others, but i hope it was mainly a problem with earlier versions of the software). some people would say that there is no way the components are worth 400$, and of course if all you wanted to buy were the components, they'd be write. however designing it, testing it, manufacturing it, providing a back-end, writing and maintaining the software all cost a significant amount of money, so i find the price perfectly fair.

do be aware of the screen. in bad light it soon becomes difficult to read.

Alpha is a portable, distraction-free writing tool for serious and aspiring writers. It introduces a fast-refreshing LCD screen to the Freewrite lineup in a portable device that syncs to the cloud and provides an instant-on writing canvas.

All Freewrite devices offer a distraction-free writing experience but cater to different needs. While Traveler is ideal for on-the-go writing with its compact design, and Smart Typewriter provides a tactile, traditional typing experience, both devices feature an E Ink screen. Alpha introduces an instant refresh LCD display paired with a quiet yet satisfying mechanical keyboard experience. Alpha is a great addition to your writing toolbox!

Alpha has an instant refresh LCD display that shows 2-4 lines of text so you can stay focused. The screen is anti-glare, as well, and utilizes ambient light so that it can be used indoors or in direct light without getting washed out.

Yes, absolutely and you can use Alpha entirely offline, if you'd like. Connect Alpha to your computer via the included USB-C. cable. When you do this, Alpha will appear as a USB Mass Storage Device, and you'll be able to move your drafts to your computer as you would with any other flash drive.

Okay. Here is a temporary solution until the real thing arrives. This allows you to import an image from a file and make it an alpha mask. If the image has color, it will be converted to greyscale. The file import is based from pleska's Photo Flood Fill Plugin.

See trickman, if you were only able to pick a color, then the whole layer would be partly transparent, same as adjusting the layer's opacity slider. This allows you to create a mask, an image whose intensity values change the opacity of a layer in your image.

So, if you wanted to make a shape with the curve tool and fill it with a gradient, but you didn't want the rough edges you get with the Magic Wand alternative, you could create the shape in a new image in white with a background of black, and save it as a .png. Then make your gradient in a new image, and use this plug-in to import the mask you just saved. The gradient would show in the white area, the shape you created in the original image, and the rest would be transparent!

Lol. You're my hero too because I was too lazy to respond. But, over half the code is from pleska, so thank him too (mainly because I was too lazy to make it myself, and available resources are the easiest way.)

I was able to make it crash, though. It was partly my fault, but I figure I should let you know. I'm really not sure this is a problem with your plugin, since the same thing happens with the Photo Flood Fill plugin, but rather an unhandled exception with PDN...

I made my image, then typed gravitymask1.png in the name box but forgot to change the file type drop-down from PDN, so it was in effect a corrupt PNG. Before I realized my mistake, I tried loading it in the alpha mask importer, and PDN threw a System.OutOfMemory exception.

I was going to reuse an old mask for a second time when I finally used the mask file yesterday. What I got was this strange tiled thing with four smaller copies of the original cutout area. What's up with that?

And the mask file should be [Doesn't have to be - it is converted to greyscale when loaded] a grayscale image where a pixel's intensity decides the alpha of the corresponding image in the selection...

I've tried every conceivable way to get a saved mask to fit over the original picture, but I always get the tiled mask with several smaller images on it. Those images also don't contain the color I used for the mask.

Maybe I'm not saving the mask correctly. When I save a mask, I first cut out the background. I'm then left with an image of the masked area alone. I simply highlight the layer with the used mask and save it to a folder I have set aside for that purpose.

This newest generation are part of an unintentional global experiment where screens are placed in front of them from the youngest age as pacifiers, entertainers and educational aids. This great screen age in which we are all living has bigger impacts on the generation exposed to such screen saturation during their formative years.

From shorter attention spans to the gamification of education, from increased digital literacy to impaired social formation, these times impact us all but transform those in their formative years. Generation Alpha began being born in 2010, the year the iPad was launched, Instagram was created, and App was the word of the year- and so from their earliest years, they have been screenagers.

For many, their childhood likely involved doing things that were new experiences, like taking piano lessons, playing sports with friends or reading books. These experiences helped shape them because they were engaging and gave opportunities to learn.

While this is likely to happen still, the way Gen Alpha learn involves technology and has become more advanced and accessible through devices such as smartphones and tablets. This is already a trend among their forerunners, Gen Z, with TikTok (42%) the third most engaged with platform by students to teach themselves new skills, coming in above parents (39%).

By 2029, when the oldest Generation Alphas enter into adulthood and the youngest Generation Alphas reach the age of five, their economic footprint will reach more than US$5.46 trillion. This means that organisations today should be thinking about the future consumer in Generation Alpha. 152ee80cbc
