Alpenglow: Dating Spots Guide ("the app") is published on Google Play by Cander Buve SIA, a company registered in Latvia, which is the data controller for the processing described here. This page explains what the app does, and does not do, with information about you.
1. In brief
The app is a guidebook that works without an account. It never asks for your name, email, location or contacts. If, and only if, you tap "Allow" on the first-launch question, the app sends usage statistics to Google Analytics for Firebase so we can see how many people use the app and which parts they find useful. These statistics are pseudonymous: they are tied to a random identifier created by Firebase, not to your name or any account. If you tap "No thanks", nothing is sent.
2. Usage statistics (only with your permission)
When you first open the app, it asks whether you want to share usage statistics. Until you answer "Allow", statistics collection is switched off.
If you allow it, the app uses Google Analytics for Firebase, a service provided by Google, to record:
- events inside the app, such as opening a country or city, viewing, saving or sharing a place, opening a place in a maps app, using "Surprise me" and changing a filter, together with the place, city and country involved;
- the fact that the app was installed and opened, the screens shown and how long the app was used;
- technical information that Firebase collects automatically: an app-instance identifier generated by Firebase, device model, operating system version, app version, language setting, and approximate location (city, region and country) worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store the IP address itself.
We do not use this information to find out who you are, and we do not combine it with other data. The app does not collect the Android advertising ID, does not allow advertising personalisation, and contains no advertising.
The legal basis for this processing is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time in "About & tips" by switching off "Share usage statistics". Collection stops immediately and the Firebase identifier and any statistics still waiting on your device are erased.
While statistics are switched on, the same section shows "Your statistics ID" — the Firebase app-instance identifier of your installation — with a Copy button. This is the only identifier the statistics are linked to, and you need it if you want us to delete statistics that have already been sent (see section 6).
Google processes this data on our behalf. It may be processed on servers outside the European Economic Area, under the safeguards Google provides (such as Standard Contractual Clauses). Event-level data linked to the app-instance identifier is kept for the retention period set in our Analytics settings (2 months) and then deleted automatically; aggregated reports that do not identify any device may be kept longer. More information: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy and https://policies.google.com/privacy
3. Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, GPS location, contacts, photos, messages or payment information. The app does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone or storage permissions. It uses only three permissions: internet and network state, to send the statistics described above when you have allowed it, and wake lock, which lets Firebase finish sending those statistics in the background.
4. Information kept only on your phone
When you tap "Save" on a place, the app remembers the identifier of that place so it can show it in "Saved places". It also remembers your answer to the statistics question. Both are stored only inside the app's private storage on your device, are excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, and are deleted when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
5. Other apps you choose to open
The "Open in maps" and "Share" buttons hand the place name and city to another app that you pick on your device, such as a maps app or a messenger. From that moment the other app's own privacy policy applies.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you can ask us for access to, correction or deletion of personal data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Switching statistics off in "About & tips" stops collection and erases the Firebase identifier from your device; statistics already sent are then no longer connected to your device and are deleted when the retention period ends. To have statistics that were already sent deleted sooner, copy "Your statistics ID" from "About & tips" (before switching statistics off) and email it to us at the address below with your request; we will delete the data linked to that ID through Google Analytics' user deletion tools within one month. Because we hold no other information about you, we cannot find your statistics without this ID. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the Data State Inspectorate of Latvia (www.dvi.gov.lv) or the authority in your own country.
7. Accuracy of place information
Descriptions in the app are written by our team about public places. Opening hours, prices and access can change, so please check with the place before you go. The app is not affiliated with the places it describes.
8. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and is not designed for them. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app's handling of information changes, we will update this page and the effective date above before the change is released.
