Buying a travel eSIM from aloSIM involves the same handful of steps whether or not you use a discount code. You pick a destination country or region, choose a data package, create an account or log in, and pay. The only point at which the two routes diverge is the checkout screen, where a promotional code box sits near the order summary after plan selection and before payment. Run the identical basket through both ways and the difference is 15% of the order total.
Without a code, the flow is four steps. Select the destination, select the package (the GB size and the validity window in days set the price), sign in, then enter card details and pay. The promotional code box is still on the screen, but leaving it empty means the discount is not applied. aloSIM does not apply the reduction automatically, so an empty box produces the full list price.
This matters because the list prices are already low and closely aligned with competitor Airalo, which can make the box easy to skim past. Local packages start from around $4.50, so a shopper may reasonably assume there is nothing to shave off.
The second run is identical up to the checkout screen. There, you enter ESDC15 in the promotional code box and apply it, then confirm the total has dropped by 15% before entering card details. That confirmation step is the practical part of the process: because the code is entered manually, the only proof it worked is the revised total in the order summary.
Two details decide whether the code takes. Codes are case-sensitive, so ESDC15 has to be typed exactly, and a trailing space copied in from elsewhere can cause a rejection. Promo codes and aloCASH, aloSIM's store credit, generally do not stack and usually apply one at a time, so a basket already set to draw on account credit may not accept the code as well. Whether ESDC15 can be combined with aloCASH is not confirmed; checkout will indicate if the combination is rejected.
The discount value scales with order value, which is the single most useful thing to know when comparing the two routes. On the entry-level end, a local package at around $4.50 attracts a saving of roughly $0.68, bringing the total to about $3.82 on the same arithmetic. Larger baskets — a bigger GB allowance, a longer validity window, a regional plan covering a group of countries such as Europe, or a global plan — produce proportionally larger reductions on the same 15%.
aloSIM does not publish a fixed price list in the knowledge available here beyond that starting point, so the only reliable figure is the percentage. The practical approach is to build the basket you actually want, note the pre-code total, apply the code, and compare.
The product you receive does not change. Either way you get a prepaid, data-only package installed digitally rather than on a physical chip, connecting to local partner networks on arrival across 170+ countries, with speeds depending on the local partner network in each country. Installation is by QR code, manual or automatic, and during setup you select 'Abroad' as the usage location and 'Data Only' as the plan type. Remaining data and validity appear in the 'My eSIMs' tab, and validity windows are fixed from activation on both routes.
The extras are also unchanged: most plans include a free Hushed phone number and calling credit, the eSIM can sit alongside a normal SIM so your usual number stays reachable, and eSIMs are tied to the account rather than the device. The same limitation applies in both cases too — because plans are data-only, they are not suitable for receiving bank SMS verification codes.
Run the device compatibility checker before committing to either route, since the discount is irrelevant if the handset cannot take an eSIM.
Confirm the GB size and validity window first; the price, and therefore the cash value of the 15%, follows from those two choices.
Apply the code before card details, not after, and read the revised order summary.
If you hold aloCASH, decide which one to use, as the two generally apply one at a time.
A referral code is available separately in the app's 'Refer and Earn' section after signup, found alongside the aloCASH programme.
