"The stage is a magic circle where only the most real things happen" - P.S. Baber
Alnwick Theatre Club, (along with all the other amateur societies that use the Playhouse), is delighted that we have such a wonderful facility here in the town.
It is firmly established as one of the leading small venues in the North of England. It is a wonderful and vibrant arts centre, and a remarkably strong and valuable part of the community.

The Theatre Club prides itself in supporting the theatre as funds permit and have taken part in fundraising shows and directly given to the theatre to install new equipment such as tracks for stage, cloths and curtains, lighting stewards seating, redecoration etc .
The Playhouse is entering a new and exciting phase in 2018 when it is being remodelled to accommodate the town library and Tourist Information with a larger foyer café area as well as a refurbishment of the auditorium to put in new seating plus backstage lifts etc.
We look forward to being back in the theatre in 2019 in time for our anniversary year.
New members are always amazed at the size of the stage at the Playhouse and all the facilities we can make use of as a non-professional theatre group. For example people interested in learning and using professional lighting equipment are certainly well catered for with a recently installed LED lighting rig. In recent years we have held lighting workshops which have been extremely well attended.
"Amadeus" was one of the most ambitious plays attempted by the Theatre Club, with demanding roles for the actors, and a great deal of involvement by wardrobe, props, lighting and sound, and stage management throughout the production.
The photo shows the set that was assembled and decorated by Theatre Club members for the production, further enhanced by digital images being projected to the rear of the set.
There is plenty of scope for members to be involved in set construction, and we have been delighted with the standard of the sets that we have achieved.
The weekend before a show, is particularly busy, with the set being assembled, painted etc, lighting and sound cues rehearsed; and costumes and props delivered to the dressing rooms and green room
Prior to their production of Calendar Girls, The Theatre Club held a coffee morning at the Playhouse, to raise money for HospiceCare North Northumberland. The hospice is the main provider of palliative care in the area. We were pleased to work with representatives from the hospice in organising the event.
Cast members held a Victoria Sponge cake competition, which was judged by a senior judge from the Women's Institute. We would like to thank everyone who arranged and supported this event
We were pleased to be included in a "Showcase of Cultivation Night" which enabled local organisations that are involved with the Playhouse, to demonstrate to an invited audience, their activities, and to emphasise how important the Playhouse is to the community of Alnwick.
The displays were created by Theatre Club members to show costumes made by our wardrobe dept and picturing various productions, featuring pantomimes, plays and comedies.
