Here is the information gleaned from Kulchin while meeting on site at Greenwood:
Soldier pile and lagging = $60/SF
If Kulchin does the shoring engineering add $1.50/SF
They engineer about 30% of all their jobs
They recommend Ground Support. Best shoring engineer in town.
Digs less than 12' depth are simpler and use roughly 12" - 14" soldier piles
Digs greater than 12" get more complicated fast. 18" piles and greater
Piles can be site welded by dropping them partially into hole, holding them there with a cross bar, welding new one on top and dropping it the rest of the way down. That only needs to be done if if site access is complex and they can bring long beams in or if the excavation depth is huge.
Walers are the horizontal diagonals. The first waler would be set just above the first floor level so the lowest slab could be built unencumbered.
Leave 21" - 24" of clearance from the property line for an 18" beam
Assume a 30" hole for an 18" beam
Perference if you could construction easement a portion of the hole so the beam would sit at the edge of property line.
The beam will sit off center within the hole, closer to PL
Waterproofing, drainage mat against lagging, filter fabric, protection board and then put pipes thru footing.
