There are two kinds of labels we use for our files: 3D labels for hanging files and basic sticker labels for our manila file folders. Here is how you make them:
3D HANGING FILE LABLES: (DO NOT PRINT ON AVERY 5568 LABELS!)
1. Go to www.viewables.com - login as katie@allied8.com. PW is in the A8 Spreadsheet.
2. A8's preset label style will be already queued-up. (BOLD ALL CAPS, 14PT, BLACK); enter the text of the hanging file label & click the save icon.
3. Once you have finished entering text and saving labels, find the list of available labels, and make sure only the the box(es) next to the label(s) you want to print is checked. Click the print icon.
4. Now find the box of viewable labels in bottom drawer of the admin file cabinets. Take out a page of printable labels (8.5" x 11 - USE LABELS IN THE SMEAD BOX). If a label has been used, indicate this by checking the used label(s) on the sheet pictured on the webpage. Click Continue. This is the sheet you will be printing.
5. Now set up the printer preferences:
Put the label sheet face down with the top fed towards the printer
Indicate from the Print Preferences, that you will be using the Manual Feed Tray
Print actual size (DO NOT scale or fit to print).
Ensure Printing on ONE side is selected
Click print
6. Go to the printer and follow the screen prompts to indicate your paper size (letter) and type (label). Click OK. Did it work?
7. If it worked, go back to the box of label equipment and get out one plastic 3D label and rip out one clear plastic cover strip. Stick the printed label on the 3D piece, then cover with the clear plastic cover. You can do this.
8. Insert in the hanging file and file alphabetically.
DONE!
Instead of printing the label directly from the website, print it to PDF instead.
Follow the same printer settings listed above, the most important being print 'actual size'
DONE!
- For some reason the margins were giving me major issues, even after adjusting, so I would recommend this work around.
NOTE:
When printing admin folder labels make sure the 'left justified' (left screenshot) is selected.
When printing project folder labels make sure the 'no index or icon' (right screenshot) is selected.
2D MANILA FOLDER LABEL
If you are printing new Accounting Manila Folder Labels use the label named: Manila Folder Labels (already filled)
1. In the A8 library open the Admin -Forms and Templates folder, then open Labels.
2. The top three choices of labels correspond to standard new project folder set-ups. If you have a different label you'd like to make, use BLANK MANILA LABELS
3. Enter desired text in label field.
4. Click print. Indicate the you will be using the manual feed tray for the paper input. Print.
5. At the printer, insert the label paper face down with the short side going in first (you'll need to adjust the paper guides waaaaay in).
6. At the printer screen click "Custom" to indicate the size of the paper: X: 6.00 Y: 4.00. Paper type: labels. OK. Did it work?
