Exile City

The AllArtNow presents Exile City, a pavilion that approaches exile not as loss but as a continuous process of becoming. Some cities are defined by power, structure, and the borders drawn on maps. Others are shaped through memory, repetition, and the experience of living elsewhere. Exile City is built not on territory but on relationships. It is conceived not as a fixed place, but as a state shaped through movement, interruption, and the ongoing effort to build a life elsewhere. Here, exile is understood not only as a condition or identity, but also as a way of seeing the world and giving new form to it. The project brings together Nisrine Boukhari, Muhammad Ali, and Rezan Arab, three artists who have lived in exile for more than a decade. During a residency in Gwangju, they develop new works informed by the experience of living elsewhere. Rather than turning personal experience into narrative, their practices examine how displacement reshapes perception, memory, and spatial experience. The works emerge between places, where encounters, hesitations, and moments of recognition gradually forge new relationships with their surroundings.The curatorial approach is grounded in long-term collaboration and on-site production. The pavilion takes place at Chungjang 22, where the architecture, rhythm, and social environment actively inform the works. The exhibition is conceived not as a self-contained display but as an opportunity to test artistic practice within a different cultural and spatial context. 

Founded in Damascus and later relocated to Stockholm, AllArtNow understands art as a means of sustaining relationships, adapting to change, and continuing under shifting conditions. Exile City understands change as a process of repetition, adaptation, and the gradual formation of meaning. Rather than offering resolution, it creates a space in which displacement becomes a way of forging new relationships. Accompanied by a programme of conversations and encounters, the pavilion extends beyond the exhibition to explore how art can sustain connection under conditions that remain uncertain and unfinished.

망명 도시

올아트나우 파빌리온은 망명을 상실이 아닌 ‘지속적 생성 과정’으로 바라보는 전시 《망명 도시》를 제안한다. 어떤 도시는 권력 구조와 지도 위 경계로 정의되지만, 또 어떤 도시는 기억과 반복, 다른 장소에서 살아가는 경험을 통해 형성된다. 영토를 넘어서는 관계 위에 건설된《망명 도시》는 고정되지 않고 이동, 단절, 다른 곳에서 삶을 이어가려는 지속적 노력 속에서 형성되는 하나의 상태다. 여기서 망명은 특정 사람이나 대상에 그치지 않고, 세계를 바라보고 새로운 형태를 창조하는 하나의 방식으로 확장된다. 이 프로젝트는 10년 이상 망명 생활을 한 예술가 3인 니스린 부카리, 무함마드 알리, 레잔 아랍이 전남광주 레지던시 기간의 ‘이주 경험’을 바탕으로 제작한 신작을 선보인다. 작가들은 ‘이주 경험’이 지각, 기억, 공간을 경험하는 방식을 어떻게 바꾸어놓는지 연구한다. 이번 전시가 열리는 충장22는 장기적 협업과 현장 제작을 바탕으로 건축, 리듬, 사회적 환경을 작업에 반영해온 공간이다. 어떤 독립된 결과물로 작품을 제시하기보다는 또 다른 문화적·공간적 조건 속에서 예술적 실천을 실험하는 하나의 과정으로 이어진다.

2005년 다마스쿠스에 설립한 올아트나우는 스톡홀름으로 이전해 새롭게 자리 잡았다. 프로젝트는 변화하는 조건 속에서 관계를 지속하기 위한 하나의 방식으로 예술을 바라본다. 《망명 도시》는 변화를 반복이자 적응인 동시에 새롭게 의미가 형성되는 과정으로 사유하고 이주를 새로운 관계 맺기 방식으로 전환하는 공간을 만든다. 대화와 만남 프로그램을 동반하는 파빌리온은 불확실하고 완성되지 않은 조건 속에서 예술이 어떻게 연결을 지속할 수 있는지 탐색한다.
