"All I Want" is a song by Dublin-based alternative rock quartet Kodaline taken from their 2013 album In a Perfect World. It was released as the fourth single from the album topping at number 15 in the Irish Singles Chart. It also charted on the UK Singles Chart reaching #67. As of November 7, 2023, the song has amounted over 1.03 billion streams on Spotify.[2]

This song has got EVERYTHING for a modern wedding song suggestion. Beautiful lyrics, soft & slower tempo (that slightly builds), and piano! Personally I could see it working as a fun processional song, a modern first dance song, or somewhere else in your wedding ceremony playlist. Or if all else false, add it to your cocktail hour playlist :)

The second album from the band received some negative reviews from critics and fans alike due to the obvious evolution of sound. However, Kodaline stand by their decision to experiment with melodies while keeping their lyrics true to their beliefs. Although the sound is different, I personally think that it is a nice and needed change. Yes they could have played it safe and made an album similar to In A Perfect World, but why? The songs are still representative of their experiences and prove the range, fearlessness, and desire for progression of the young men. And these live versions prove that regardless of the genre affiliation you may assign Coming Up For Air, the effectiveness and passion of the songs are just as prominent as they ever have been from Kodaline.

The Snare is only used in the instrumental (which is where the song is most textured in terms on instrumentation). The snare coming into this section gives the mix a different timbre of the drums as most of the drums are low end, bassy sounds. The snare resonates a punchy sound and is snappy which allows it to be tight in the mix and not appear muddy when played along with the toms and kick.

The piano is one of the main instruments used in the song as it offers melody chords for the other instruments. Being a pianist myself, a grand piano sounds a lot warmer, woody and even has a natural delay to it from its weighted keys and wooden soundboard. A keyboard compared to a grand piano sounds brighter and has a faster release (causing less delay). The chord progressions flow into one another giving the song a more ballad feel to it which matches the romantic lyrics.

These microphones are well known for recording vocals as they capture a more natural sound and giving a more detailed sound image. I feel as though this was used for the vocalist voice as Stephen Garrigan sounds the same live as his recorded songs. Large-diaphragm microphones are good for picking up low-end frequencies and richer, bass tones. When listening to the vocalist, it is more his higher notes that are pushed forward and captured in detail compared to the baritone qualities in his voice.

When looking at the stereo image of the song, I have listened to each element in the mix and used the panning and levels to imagine where these are in the stereo image (see below). As you can see the panning is altered for different sections of the song and this is only a guide. In verses and choruses, the panning seems to stay similar, however when the instrumental and bridge come in, instruments and vocals are moved around to introduce more instruments such as the cymbals and electric guitar.

What do you think makes that difference between getting noticed and being signed and not being able to get a record deal? Is it about hard work, style or live shows? Or is it just about writing the right song?

this song is stunning. it's so beautiful because it's so simple. we all want to ask that one question, but it'll hurt too much, or we're too scared to hear the answer. "but if you loved me, why'd you leave me?" this song is fantastic

could not have said it better myself, the pure simplicity of the song is what makes it so great, its all face value and is all we know we want to ask but dont have the courage to and why we can connect so well to it.

@lhuang102 I think everyone can hear this song how they choose to hear it, but this song is definitely referring to something more permanent than a breakup. The "take my body" line is reference to when the only way they'll be together again. As noted below, the "if you loved me, why'd you leave me" isn't referring to a significant lover changing their mind, as much as it is the speaker (as for many people who lose loved ones) angry that their love has passed without them... the feeling of "how could you leave me on this earth alone?" And the rest is him/her contemplating how they'll ever be able to love someone as much as the former.

I understand this song not just as a simple post-break up song, but more like song when the beloved one is gone for good. I find it more from the way of singing rather than lyrics but the words as well. They are singing about a wish to see the face once more and if the person is alive, no matter where he/she lives, it's possible to meet again. Also, saying "But If you loved me,Why'd you leave me?" sounds like an accusation "how could you left me here alone?". And the last argument is about the line "Take my body", it's asking to take the body to the place the love is, because the soul and mind are already there.

Not going to lie, I cried hard the first time I heard this song. Very true that in a break up it feels like a death. As simple as this song is, it perfectly portrays the strong emotion and desires that follow a painful breakup. His voice carries his feelings so beautifully.

I think it could be taken either way. I'm sure they wanted it to apply broadly to any sort of loss. Sometimes a break-up can seem just as devastating and permanent as the death of a loved one. Either way, it is a beautiful song with plenty of emotion.

When I lost my bestfriends skiah and jaiah I was heartbroken and also when listen to this song I cry because when he says "when you said your last goodbyes i died a little bit inside I lay in bed with tears in bed all night" and this part "cause you brought out the best of a part of me ive never seen you took my soul and wiped it clean" that hit me because I mean yea whenever I was with them they made me the happiest ive ever been in a long time and yea and when they moved I was heatbroken because i didnt know when I was going to see them again and now at school they avoid me because I said something that was never true

This song is saying that he cannot live without his love. The lyric "But if you loved me, why'd you leave me" gets me every time because this song was in The Fault In Our Stars and it describes it perfectly. Hazel and Agustus were in love, and will always be in love. She missed him dearly. She missed seeing his face and hearing his voice but she knew she'd see him again soon.

Hello guys! Today, I want to talk to you about a song that I discovered not so long ago. It is the song Brother by Kodaline. It is a song that I instantly liked for its meaning and how it gave me chills. I will provide a brief analysis of this song, followed by what this song means for me. So, here is the song:

This song talks about the bonds between two friends that are so close that they love each other like brothers do. The narrator talks about everything that his friend and himself have gone through together and how each obstacle made them grow closer. Over the years, they have chosen different paths, but they still love each other very much. The narrator says he would do anything for his friend and that he knows that his friend would do the same for him. It is a song that shows how friendship can mean a lot of love and support.

When I first listened to this song, although it is about a friendship, I thought of my relationship with my brother and my sister and how I would do anything for them because I love them unconditionally. I felt as if the way the narrator felt towards his friend could be applied perfectly to how I feel towards my siblings with whom I have lived so much already and with whom I hope to live so much more. Also, the fact that the narrator talked about how his friend and himself chose different paths made me wonder how it will be when my siblings and I will have to make decisive choices for our lives. I know that growing up, these choices will surely be different, but I hope that these choices will not affect how close we are, although I know that it would not change the way I care about them. But mostly, this song was able to demonstrate the strong connection between two individuals.

We listen to music to relax and de-stress. We might have had a tough day at work or school and unwind with songs that are music to our ears the minute we get home. In this sense, music can be a temporary distraction from the trials and tribulations of reality, taking us to a happier place for a moment.

Music has always been a very important part of my life. I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan because I have found that I can personally relate to the themes in his songs. But nothing moves my soul the way playing piano does. There is something more going on in the brain when making music. It is a whole other language.

The song "All I Want" by Kodaline is about heartbreak and longing for a lost love. The narrator of the song is mourning the loss of their lover and going through the sadness of knowing that the relationship is over. In the chorus, the narrator questions why their lover left them, and expresses a desire to find someone else to fill the void. The lyrics and the music emphasize the narrator's need for comfort and connection, and their need for someone to love them in a way that was similar to how the original relationship felt. The song is a reminder that although love can be painful, it is also a necessary part of life.

The song, from their self-titled debut EP (dropping April 23), will likely be reminiscent of Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons or the Lumineers for first-time listeners, but Kodaline maintain their own spin on their sound. It's somewhat minimalist, but the track builds about 3:40 seconds in with a "whoa-oh" refrain during the bridge. 006ab0faaa
