Why I want this: Blake is a very contested character when it comes to matchups, but I believe she shines the best against a thematic foil with a somewhat similar but not identical combat style. Nami fits that category more so than Blake's multitude of opponents, and getting her a good opponent makes this a win-win. Blake was practically born into White Fang, but then left of her own will later, while Nami was forced into menial labor when she was slightly older, and actively fought back the whole time. Both were never quite fully fledged members, but their different roles combined with Blake being part of the discriminated race in question for her and Nami instead being part of the target demographic makes for thematic parallels that would make for an emotional and intense clash interaction-wise. Imagine how both of them would snap in the heat of battle if they learned of the other's background, Blake appalled that Nami did not do more to leave Arlong, and Nami outraged at that notion when Blake arguably had it easier within White Fang.

Why I want this: Whether the Wily vs Eggman route or the Sigma vs Ultron route is taken, including their organisations in the fight for some sort of army battle with a "down-to-earth" feel could make for an engaging and unique encounter. While both are old enough as characters to ham it up a lot in character, balancing that out with a spy battle vibe and lots of environmental flair for the two leaders would make for a tense battle that just sounds like the more interesting way to go for these two. Some cheesy one-liners are definitely needed though. Not too much else to add, these are historic characters that are worthy of inclusion, and put against each other like this would highlight their personalities, their organisations, and their general vibe the best. March drums are really cool in versus, I'd like to see what the track to this one would sound like.

Why I want this: This matchup has as much backing as it has for good reason. Yes, the core concept is somewhat shallow, but it really doesn't need to be more when it's this complimentary for both characters. Frankly, Ash and Lucy are both quite straightforward characters, and considering a battle of master summoners I believe they're best suited to fight similar personalities from worlds with complimentary vibes, and that leads me to wanting them to face each other. For some reason a lot of people see Ash as a purely unserious character, when that is simply not the case. Tbh, these two have the exact same blend of lightheartedness and serious shonen determination, and when they each bring a bunch of summons with different personalities and animation flair, that's really all you need to be a great fit for one another. Pokemon and Fairy Tail's colorful elemental combat is also a good animation match on that front, and while off the top of my head Ash hasn't engaged in physical combat himself, he has shown quite a bit of athleticism in multiple weird situations and thus it would only be a really minor stretch to have him throw a punch or two if you feel that is absolutely necessary, which I frankly don't, Lucy assisting her zodiac spirits in combat against the pokemon is more than enough to get an engaging choreography going.

Why I want this: 'Cause the animation potential sounds rad as fuck. These two may have somewhat one note profiles as characters, but their fighting styles are anything but that. Juggernaut and Azrael both come from worlds with crazy eclectic casts, and have gone up against a fair amount of them, which has lead to multiple different kinds of encounters to reference. Juggernaut's boss fight in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (goated game) is one example, showing how environmental destruction and CQC can work well for Juggernaut too, so while his momentum abilities are his most iconic, there's no reason to fear this turning into some kind of Fly Swatter battle consisting only of Marko running back and forth. Especially since Juggernaut has actually reached the levels of power Trion Juggernaut showed in base, that form just makes him more versatile, so dimension breaking shenanigans or fucking with physics is definitely on the table.

Ex-Aid is also a doctor, which sets the groundwork for his franchise being about computer viruses turning into bug-like monsters that can also affect humans, so he could mistake Neptune for a rogue patient at first, while she might attempt to purge him, as he gained his powers via being patient zero, so in her eyes he'd be a virus too. With Neptune literally having a double digit amount of wiki pages just to list all her techniques (many of which are just straight up invoking Sega games), and Ex-Aid's ability to invent new super forms for himself on the fly as well as rewrite his own life story and apply gaming cheat codes to real life means the animation potential is just a straight up smorgasbord of possibilities.

Why I want this: I've mentioned in Casey Jones vs Metal Bat that I really enjoy this sub-category of matchups that are strongly tied to environmental story-telling and choreography, and it's hard to get better than this matchup in that category. The "Everything but the Kitchen Sink" approach is also here what makes the matchup truly great, taking cues from iconic scenes from movies like Tenet, John Wick, Now You See Me 2,and ofc the video game franchises of these two for a battle of who can fuck up each other with the weirdest objects. These two do have a great knowledge of mixed martial arts, so it wouldn't just be throwing every random thing after each other constantly, but rather a choreography full of mixups, feints, and generally creative application of the characters.

Why I want this: It's got a clear, unique identity, which automatically bumps it very far up in my interests. First of all, while most of Chaos' forms, Chaos 2 and Chaos 4 especially, have good animation potential against Kyogre, it is entirely possible to have the animation just be Perfect Chaos, who absolutely is the best fit, while still being faithful to the characters. Second of all, the stationary battle animations of mainline Pokemon as well as the shape of Kyogre's body in sprites has led many to view them as some hulking beast, while most anime portrayals as well as just what common sense tells me about a battle animation with a giant orca indicate that Kyogre vs Chaos would actually be a fairly fast-paced battle, with story beats like a Carnage vs Lucy moment between Chaos's tentacles and Kyorge bobbing and weaving through the water, knocking some of them out of the way as Kyogre does naturally learn physical moves, and streamlining its swimming shape underwater could make for some ramming attacks that feel impactful. The battles are amazing, really. Like SMT or Etrian, the early enemies are powercrept fast, but you need to respect the sleepers every time a new one appears and I respect that. I always love when battles are less about enemies with big numbers who can't kill you, but take forever to die and more of the good old "kill fast, die fast". I did not expected Sumireko to be this customizable, I can see myself messing around with countless builds to better suit my selection of characters and already in the demo I had those moments of me forgetting to progress the game because I was too invested in finding a specific sleeper to make my team a tiny bit stronger.
