At the rate I write these blogposts, I'll have like one post each month. Which is fine, but I did want to write more when I started this! But sometimes I don't have a main topic and then I don't do it rip anyways
Note: there's Wicked spoilers in this, and also for Alien, but that's from, 1979, so like
Sonic Frontiers
Let's talk about Sonic again. I haven't finished yet, I encountered lore important pinball quest and it was the funniest ever, and I haven't played for a few days since. One could say it was because of the skill issue, but I would argue it's the pinball. ANCIENT PINBALL? REALLY?
I'm loving it so much, not only do I get to see Sonic groaning in pain (he constantly has a headache and period pains in cutscenes now!) but most importantly, being able to run around a big field on different islands really lets you experience the Sonic the Hedgehog Life tm. My first big open world was Genshin Impact, and their map design aside, it was just so big and so tedious sometimes to get from point A to point B - especially with the upper vs lower levels. I played most actively before we got characters who specialised in traversing the environment so I didn't have that luxury. With Sonic, you're the fastest thing alive! You can go from point A to point B in the metaphorical blink of an eye! And it's so fun, it's not tiring to run around, you're just Sonic T. Hedgehog.
That being said, I did get stuck one time on Chaos Island for a bit. I don't think this is my fault though I think it's my the Switch graphics, from a distance I couldn't see there was a bridge from the beginning island to the island with a chaos emerald so I ran all the way around to the other side only to have no way of crossing. It was fine though, all the little puzzles and exploration stuff scattered throughout always made sure I was doing something. I think it's a really good open world for someone who wants to play open world but doesn't have the capacity nor energy to dig into every piece of dirt. Genshin's maps are humongous (a little bit of a form over function in some areas), and I didn't have the attention span for the more intricate exploration in BoTW.
HOWEVER I do have to say, I don't own BoTW. I borrowed my friend's copy and borrowing my friend's copy meant I was trying to experience as much as I could rather than soak in the moment while still being balls deep in another hyperfixation (I can't remember what, either Arknights or Blue Lock). So I'm not saying it's BoTW's fault, I'm saying it's my friend's fault for lending it to me and I think he should've just given it to me (I'm joking).
Anyways, the music in Frontiers is amazing. I banned myself from listening to a lot of the songs until I hear them in game but this does mean I don't get to listen to Vandalize and I'm really sad about that. How will I fuck the pain away my bed is ruins...
Some of the cyberspace tracks have a very Vocaloid-like quality to them which makes me wonder if any producers of that kind were involved somehow like Teddyloid in Shadow Generations (WHICH IS STILL CRAZY TO ME BTW) but I don't really want to check in case I see spoilers...
I'll write a full blogpost about Frontiers when I'm done, but for now I'm just having a really good time
Movies, games and checking off boxes
As someone who likes making lists and (occasionally) checking them off I realised how fun Letterboxd and Backgloggd are. Knowing that I can note down another thing I watched/played in my little list thing actually gives me motivation to watch/play more. I have a hard time starting new things, redoing something I'd already done is easier and that's why I have a huge to-watch/read/play list but I hope that I can see more things because, and this is my motivation with everything, it'd help with my OCs...
I don't go too into depth for these posts since I gotta save some thoughts for my notebook but anyways I watched Alien (1979) and reallyyyyyyyyyy liked it. The environment is SO COOL, the sound design, the vibes. I watched someone play the game years ago so I vaguely remember a little bit about the 'universe' and it's really nice how faithful the game's environment and vibes are to the original movie. I did completely forget about there being androids in the game so I was losing my mind over the android reveal in the movie. The set-up of being stranded in space as terrible things happen made me think of Mouthwashing and I don't know the history of the scifi genre in film or anything but I can see that Alien was probably an inspiration for it
Again, I do comparisons out of love, and I'm a HASHTAG GAMER, also I'm one of those people who connect dots that aren't there but mayhaps I'm onto something
Also watched Wicked! I liked it more than I thought I would, not because I'm a musical-hater but because of, unfortunately, some tweets about the shots. But it was so whimsical, fun and silly, and I just had a good time and that's really what determines how much I like something. I watched the deleted scenes and I'm confused why they did that, especially the one with Glinda telling Elphaba she would've helped her too. That was pretty important to their relationship, why skip over adding one extra minute to the movie???
