AI Homework Helper: Scan ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we collect it, how it is used, and how it is shared—particularly concerning third-party Artificial Intelligence (AI) services.
This policy is designed to comply strictly with App Store Guidelines 5.1.1(i) and 5.1.2(i).
## 1. What Data We Collect & How We Collect It
We collect only the minimum amount of data necessary to provide you with step-by-step homework solutions and educational assistance.
* **User-Provided Data (Images & Text):** When you use the "Homework Scanner", "Math Solver", or "PDF/Notes Helper" features, we collect the exact image (photo) you take with your camera, the image you upload from your photo gallery, or the text/notes you manually submit.
* **We do NOT collect personally identifiable information (PII)** such as your name, phone number, physical address, or location.
## 2. All Uses of Your Data
The images and text data you provide are used strictly for one purpose:
* To analyze the homework question, math problem, or study note you provided in order to generate a step-by-step educational solution, summary, or flashcard.
* Your data is **not** used to build a personalized profile on you, and it is **not** used for targeted advertising.
## 3. Third-Party AI Data Sharing (OpenAI)
To process the homework images and text and generate intelligent solutions, **we share your submitted image and text data with a third-party AI service provider: OpenAI, L.L.C. ("OpenAI")**.

Only the specific photo of the homework/math problem you upload or the text prompt you type.
**Why it is sent:**
To utilize OpenAI’s advanced Vision and Language models to interpret the educational problem and return a step-by-step solution.
**Equal Protection Guarantee:**
We confirm that OpenAI provides the same or equal protection of your data as stated in this policy. OpenAI’s API data privacy policies strictly state that they **do not** use data submitted by API customers (like us) to train or improve their models. Your data is processed transiently to return the solution and is not stored for training purposes.
## 4. User Permission and Consent
We do not silently send your data to OpenAI in the background.
Before any of your photos or text are transmitted to OpenAI for the first time, our application will present a clear, in-app consent dialog. This dialog explicitly identifies that your photo/text will be sent to OpenAI to generate a solution. **No data is transmitted unless you tap "I Agree & Continue".**
## 5. Data Retention
Images and notes are stored locally on your device so you can view your history. We do not store your images on our servers. The data sent to OpenAI is retained by them only for the absolute minimum time required (typically up to 30 days for abuse monitoring) and is then permanently deleted, per OpenAI’s API data retention policies.
## 6. Children's Privacy
While our app is educational, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Because the app does not require account creation or personal details, we only process the anonymous homework photos submitted. We encourage parents to monitor their children's use of internet-connected applications.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
