Project Overview

In what has been the most challenging and unprecedented year for most, we knew that we wanted to focus our project on helping those affected by the pandemic. After learning about the Digital Divide, we decided to coordinate with Alhambra and Cordova to help organize this Jump-a-thon! We believe that in the 21st century, Internet connection is a necessity, not a luxury. Our goal is to raise awareness of the digital divide and help bridge this divide to ensure that all students have reliable Internet connection.

What is the Digital Divide?

The digital divide refers to the growing gap between those who have access to reliable computers and Internet and those who do not. Still, only approximately 60% of households in Maricopa County have access to high-speed Internet connection at home.

Our Goal

Another obstacle that students faced through digital learning was physical activity. We wanted to inspire students to stay physically active. Hence, we donated jump ropes for this Jump-a-thon! In coordination with AVID, we made a goal for each student to jump at least 100 times per day to represent the desire for 100% of students to have reliable, high-speed Internet connection. Additionally, despite some students being in-person and some being virtual, you are all ONE Cordova! (Check the digital thermometer on the Home page of this site to see your progress!)
