Teachers will:
engage in the process of unpacking standards as a member of one or more collaborative teams.
be well-informed of the essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions students must acquire as a result of completing a specific class, course, or comprehensive grade level program of studies.
post learning targets in an easily visible area in the classroom and review them daily with students. Teachers may choose to use “I can” statements that clearly articulate the purpose of the lesson from the student’s point of view, explain the importance and relevance of the day’s lesson, and provides success criterion.
Collaborative Teams will:
establish common learning targets for standards that identify the knowledge and skills each student is expected to learn in an individual lesson or series of lessons.
If teachers collaborate, unpack standards, establish and routinely use learning targets, then alignment will exist between the written, taught, and tested curriculum, resulting in improved student achievement.
