The Governor's App Challenge is a statewide computer programming competition for Alabama students. The goal of the Challenge is to allow more students to gain recognition for their mastery and application of computer programming and design!
RULES
App Challenge Official Rules
Student Eligibility
Students may only submit one application. In any language, except HTML. Does not need to be a phone app.
Students must enter the competition through their enrolled school.
Home school and private school students will submit through their home/private school. (You will have the options to choose which school category on the application.)
Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to three.
Students will compete in one of three grade bands:
Elementary: K-5
Middle School: 6-8
High School: 9-12
All members of a team must be in the same grade band.
APP CHALLENGE RUBRIC
All App Challenge submissions will be judged based on the grading rubric as outlined.
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Participants agree that submitting the their app at https://bit.ly/ALAppChallenge23. This will enter the participant in the Alabama Governor’s App Challenge. The deadline to submit the form is January 14, 2024 at 11:30 PM.
Participants agree that an unlimited number of submissions by a teacher can be submitted but schools can submit only one app for each grade band (Elementary: K-5, Middle School: 6-8, High School: 9-12) to their district tech coordinator as the school winner . This means each school can only submit a maximum of three apps.
Participants agree that app development teams will only consist of a maximum of three members, all from the same grade band.
Participants agree that they will adhere to the rules, requirements, and grading rubric posted on 2021 Governor's App Challenge website.
Participating schools agree to submit final apps to District Technology Coordinators by the deadline on January 29, 2024.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each grade band.

FAQs
If I submit the app created by my students are they automatically entered in the competition? Only for your school. Your LEA's Technology Coordinator will also receive an email with the entry to alert them of the submission. See the Process Chart to find out the submission steps.
What do students need to submit? The teacher must complete the form to submit a written response and a video of the app being used. See the official rules for more information.
Where is the link for the LEA submissions? When a school registers, they must add their district technology coordinator's email and they will receive an email with the app information and the link for LEA winner submissions. If you are a district technology coordinator and need the link, email algovappchallenge@gmail.com .
