Alfredo holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Universidad EAFIT (2022) and currently works as a consultant in macroeconomics forecasts in the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). He earned his bachelor's degree in Economics from Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and completed a master's degree in Economics at Universidad EAFIT.
He specializes in open-economy macroeconomics, with a focus on international capital markets, external shocks, and macrofinancial risks in emerging market economies. His research centers on the evaluation of monetary, fiscal, and macroprudential policies through the development and application of Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) models featuring a wide range of real and financial frictions. Using these structural frameworks, he examines the transmission mechanisms of exogenous shocks, assesses the effectiveness of policy interventions, and designs stress-testing scenarios and macrofinancial risk analyses.
Alfredo has taught Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Econometrics at Universidad EAFIT, Universidad de Antioquia, and Universidad Central de Bolivia, and served as a graduate teaching assistant in advanced macroeconomics at EAFIT. His professional experience includes positions at the Secretaría de Planificación del Desarrollo (Gobierno de La Paz) and the Banco Central de Bolivia. He has published in internationally peer-reviewed journals and has received prestigious awards, including the CEMLA Central Banking Award (Rodrigo Gómez), distinctions from ASOBANCARIA and the Banco Central de Bolivia, and the Macro Finance Research Program award from the University of Chicago.
