Project realized with Arch. Giacomo Lai and Arch. Alessandra Loi
The ruins of Sant’Ignazio Blockhouse rise in Sant’Elia hill, a privileged point of view in which is possible to see the beauty of the city of Cagliari.
This project started from accurate studies of the area soil, morphology, orography and the correlation between horizontality and verticality. This work gave the opportunity to direct the design of a new building towards the esteem of the great views of the city and the nature landscape.
The idea of creating a tower is to give back this shape to the blockhouse, but interpreting it and giving it a new point of view: the sky. Actually, the tower hosts an astronomical observatory.
The two separate buildings are pure volumes, almost devoid of openings, host exhibition rooms. The spatial layout is made of partitions that creates the exhibition paths, with few recesses that represents a stop for visitors. The west volume hosts an astronomical exhibition, while the east one an exhibition room. Le rovine del Fortino di Sant’Ignazio sorgono nel colle di Sant’Elia,
