Alejandro Estrada-Moreno

Alejandro Estrada Moreno has focused his professional career on research and teaching, both in theoretical and practical areas, from academic and research spaces. Currently (since July 2023) he has been a Tenure-Eligible Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering and Mathematics at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili of Tarragona. At this university, he obtained honorary title Summa Cum Laude in 2016 in his Ph.D. through the Martí Franquès Predoctoral Scholarship what was granted. The research that enabled him to obtain his Ph.D. was focused on Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics, as part of the lines of research of the Discrete Mathematics group to which it currently belongs.

After completing his pre-doctoral period, he obtained a postdoctoral fellowship at the UOC's Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3), where he worked from March 2017 to January 2019. Specifically, he was a researcher in the Internet Computing & Systems Optimization (ICSO) research group. This group uses industrial analytic (algorithms and software solutions) to advise when necessary to make complex decisions in the areas of transport and logistics, production, real-time positioning, smart cities and finance. This period allowed him to use mathematical computational tools to solve practical situations, combining research, development and innovation through the 9 research projects in which he participated since 2017.

From February 2019 to June 2023, he was a full-time visiting professor. In this period he maintained research both in the area of Discrete Mathematics and in operations research.

The results of his research have been published in various papers related to his final degree, master's degree, Ph.D, and postdoctoral research. All are related to operations analysis and research, logistics and transportation, simheuristics, graph theory and combinatorics, and numerical methods. He has published 41 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 29 of these are indexed in JCR, another 9 are indexed in Scopus, and 3 more are indexed in non-indexed journals. On the other hand, he has participated as a reviewer in more than two dozen articles from journals and conferences.

In the first years of his professional life (2006-2012), after obtaining a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and, later, a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Havana, he worked as an interim researcher and as an associate researcher at the Cuban Meteorological Institute. During this period, he carried out R&D activities in Numerical Mathematics, Mathematical Optimization Models and Numerical Weather Prediction.

He has more than a decade of teaching experience. Since the 2014-2015 academic year, he has been an uninterrupted professor at URV. He was also a part-time visiting professor at the Euncet Business School (2018-2019) affiliated with Polytechnic University of Catalonia and, during part of his first professional stage in Cuba (2007-2012); he was a part-time visiting professor at the Central University ``Marta Abreu'' of Las Villas.

His teaching and research work enabled him to obtain the Accreditation of research (Associate Professor) and the Accreditation for Tenure-Eligible Lecturer (Profesor Lector in Spanish) granted by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU by its Catalan acronym). Additionally, he obtained the Accreditation for Associate Professor and Assistant Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor, Profesor de Universidad Privada, Profesor Ayudante Doctor in Spanish) granted by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA by its Spanish acronym), respectively.
