Thank you for visiting my tiny corner of the internet. I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work at Auburn University, AL, USA. I received my Ph.D. in Sociology with focus on Medical Sociology & Demography from the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA. My research and teaching interests include Social and Structural determinants of health, Health disparities, Global Health (sexual, reproductive, maternal and child health), and Demography. Before graduate school in the United States, I earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Demography (minor: Social Statistics) from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. I also have more than 8 years of experience in research, monitoring, evaluation and learning [RMEL] & project management on various non-profit/NGO projects including TCI Project, PPFP project etc. Currently, my research portfolio is focused on using population-representative survey data such as NHIS, DHS, BRFSS, NSDUH, MICS and so on to answer research questions in the following areas:
Understanding healthcare access and utilization experiences of the Black immigrant population in the United States.
How family dynamics determine health and demographic outcomes in the family in sub-Saharan Africa.
When I am not teaching or doing research, I enjoy spending my time watching sport - soccer, football, basketball, and formula 1; listening to music; and reading/learning about random historical facts.
