Exhibit 2

Graduation Announcement

Design Considerations:

  • When designing, I wanted to created somthing that incorporated some angles and lines. I also wanted to incorporate multiple photographs in a way that felt natural and intentional.

  • I chose to center-align my text because I wanted it to have a more tradition, official feel to it. I also chose to use a mix of serif and script fonts to create contrast in the verbiage.

  • I chose to use white boxes behind the photo strip and the text to separate these elements from the main photo and create contrast. I chose the color white because it nicely accented the snow in the photos and did not distract from the overall design.

  • The photo strip asthetic allowed for a natural method of sharing multiple photos in this design. The angle of the photo strip combined with the semi-transparent box creates an angle that guides viewers to look at the main photo.

Revision

Revisions:

I chose to revise this portfolio at the request of the girl featured in the announcement. I adjusted the gradient of the white bar at the bottom of the design. I did this so it would blend it better.

I also worked to remove the red from the subject's face in each of the photos. I did this to make her skin color look more normal and less like she was cold.

Skills Used:

  • Bridge was used to manage photos and for photo selection.

  • Camera Raw was used to adjust the brightness, contrast, and saturation of the photos.

  • The main photo was created in Photoshop through the use of layers, layer masks, cropping, content-aware fill, and the transformation tool.

  • The design was created in InDesign as it allowed for easier cropping and alignment of the photo strip. Within InDesign, I used layers, photo frame tools, shape tools, and text tools.
