@Mikey219 @iann @50cent If you use a password protected Standard User Account in Windows 10 all your passwords, addresses, etc. in Brave are private and cannot be seen by other users, but of course they are not encrypted. Your Windows 10 password is needed to view and make changes to this info.

My PC was infected. The malware export all my saved passwords to a cvs file even though my PC has a Windows login password.

Would be nice to have a second authentication procedure to allow password export.

Any synced section in more than one PC can be a weak point for this kind of threat.

It would be great marketing if Brave implements this before Chrome itself.

This needs to be standard in chrome and every browser. As a Cyber Sec. Engineer in training I keep my eyes on threats and we have a new type of Malware that steals passwords from browsers and gather passwords, credit cards, other autofill data, computer configuration and software info, 2FA data and backup codes, and a lot more and send it back as a compressed file.

Hello! I am the head of lighting at my local theater company, and I was wondering if there was any way that you can set up a startup password to keep people from messing up your show, or changing your settings? There are many times that I am not in, and when someone who doesn't know how to use the board try to turn on the lights, they end up changing my settings, or doing something weird, especially when there are wall panels to turn on the lights. I saw that there were talks about doing this before, but that was a few years ago, and I wanted to know if there was any update on the situation. Also, the board that we use is the Element 2.

Unfortunately a password lock is not available yet, although it is a common request. The best current practice is physical security (preventing fingers from getting to the board) and/or having your show file saved on a USB drive for backup.

But cant you set it so it starts up with a magic sheet in limited expand mode with keyboard etc locked and then unless they know how to get out of that mode they cant tamper with anything and your magic sheet could just have some buttons for them to turn on/off the work lights etc.

It would be great to have the opportunity to lock models with a password, so that without password it is not possible to make any changes on the model or/an it is impossible to measure the models dimensions. I am an engineere designing my projects in SketchUp; I would like to give my clients the models but want to prevent that they can measure everything out and start to analyse and copy my designs. Maybe it would be valaubale if Trimble is making an password lock in SketchUp 2016.

So I'm making a switch to Firefox after this update, I love this. Now I want to be able to add a password lock to the whole browser. One perfect example of this is LockPW, an extension that is only available for Chromium, no Firefox add-on alternative. What's weird is that after researching, I'm realizing that every past example of add-ons that lock the browser, mentioned in blogs and forums written years ago, are all gone, removed from the add-ons site. Was this intentional? I have been trying to find a way to lock the exe directly within its AppData folder with no luck so far. Does anyone know a way to do this?

But I use Joplin for my diary and I don't want anyone else, including my partner to be able to open it and read it. I'm sure at least some of the developers at Joplin have families who share their devices at some point.. So how do they keep a basic lock on say Windows 10 to have some privacy?

You asked a question about password locking Joplin. I linked you to a section of the FAQ called "Could there be a password to restrict access to Joplin?" which has a link to the open github issue about it where there is even more info.

Basically no. You would need to use things built into your OS, or other solutions like app locking software, parental controls etc.

Then there is physically isolating the app, like using JoplinPortable on a USB stick that only you have access to.

There are a ton of solutions you could use but they depend on your exact use case: If it is just idle curiosity then you could have a simple batch or shell script that in turn only launches the app if you give it the right password. You could use OS features baked into certain OSs. You could use third party apps like -DeskLock.shtml (I have no idea if this app is trustworthy, I just found it from a 30s google search). You can use Joplin portable to put the entire thing on a removable drive. You could just hide the desktop shortcut.

And what people want isn't the same either. Some just want a password to restrict access to people using the device. Some want to encrypt all the info stored in the database to prevent people seeing info if they gain access to the files. In those cases you have three groups already and may feel strongly about the implementation.

You can try Veracrypt, which is considered as the successor of Truecrypt, with Joplin portable. IMO, the password protection is a good feature, but it is not so urgent and it might take a lot of work to make the proctection safe enough. So I think you should let the pros to do the really challenging work, like Veracrypt.

I am currently looking for an alternative to Onenote and was ready to use Joplin. But there was one more thing I needed: note locking. I have some notes about personal thoughts and ideas for birthday gifts that I used to lock with a password. Ok, Joplin can do that too. But the attitude of people here who dismiss such requests from many users on the grounds that "you're stupid if you want privacy on a shared device" got me thinking....

Windows Network Rights also will not work. Document Management would be a nightmare - people would just do a save as to copy the file and make the edits they see fit (I want to prevent that from occuring), the administrator, who controls the Rights, would constantly be in Windows Explorer changing users Rights to allow for revisions to occur or lock specific users out - sounds like a miserable job to me and frankly pointless.

By password locking the geometry, within Rhino, it protects Intellectual Property, simplifies rev control and document management and keeps everything inside one file - producing a clean digital filing system. Simple is better; why jump through hoops when you can do everything at the source.

I think one reason we have not pursued this so far is that, apart from priorities and resources as usual, there is considerable doubt as to whether really secure locking is possible. We had watermarking but this has been yanked, and I imagine the issues are similar, but I am just guessing.

VeraCrypt is free open-source disk encryption software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. In case an attacker forces you to reveal the password, VeraCrypt provides plausible deniability. In contrast to file encryption, data encryption performed by...

Different possible use cases, but given the nature of Obsidian I second what @bscott highlighted. Going down the path of full lock and encrypt would introduce limitations that are taking away from the flexibility of plain text storage. There are plenty of tools to protect data. The ask here is maybe simply the ability to hide folders from prying eyes.

Implementing something like this in a text editor is not so simple. I would recommend using protections available on the computer/device you use to interact with Obsidian (drive encryption, authentication mechanisms, etc.). If you keep your device locked when you are away or not using it, then your Obsidian data is still protected.

There are inherent weaknesses in programs adding encryption - developers are unlikely to be encryption experts, and it can give users a false sense of security. If someone has access to your system, all programs used frequently will be vulnerable. A degree of password protection is a different thing.

Enjoy all the security and peace of mind that comes along with knowing that your KickScooter isn't going anywhere. Our smart, 5-digit password keeps you protected from theft, along with a hardy inner core and braided steel wire.

Your lock is 4' (120cm) long by 1/2'' (12mm) in diameter, making it perfect for motorcycles, generators, gates, fences, grills, lawnmowers, skateboards, strollers, scooters, and just about anything you might want to keep safe.

I just restored my phone to factory settings, which solved the issue I was previously having. But now I have a new one: iPhone default settings make you punch in a password every time you unlock your phone until you turn passcode lock off. However, I don't have the option. I'm pretty sure I should have a "Passcode Lock" option in the "Settings" > "General" menu between "Auto-Lock" and "Restrictions," but it just isn't there. Has it been moved?

I just installed Ubuntu on my media computer. I would like to be able to login from suspend without writing in the password. Found this thread:Disable password request from from suspend - 18.04Somebody already commented on the solution that it didn't work for him/her. I have the same thing. I found another solution of just disabling the lock screen all together. That would be fine by me, but it also doesn't allow me to suspend the computer anymore, and as it is in my bedroom, I would like to be able to suspend it manually instead of waiting 15 minutes until it can autosuspend. Any ideas of what I can do?

That is really weird, I tried all those first including typing privacy into the menu and it just brought me to the power option in settings which just sets the time for a blank screen.

However when I ran

Be cautious when sharing files or passwords with other users. You still run the risk of passwords them falling into the hands of unintended users. Remember that locking a file with a password does not necessarily protect your file from malicious intent.

Depending on the template such as Avenue you can password an index page in 7.0 or any page in that index as well. Some templates such as Brine, which is the inspiration for 7.1 will not allow pages in an index to be password protected. ff782bc1db
