INTRODUCTION
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how the developer of the mobile application AksaraKu (the "Developer", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you install or use the application (the "App"). By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described herein.
The App is built on a local-first principle: content you create and preferences you set are stored solely on your device and are not transmitted to the Developer, as the Developer does not operate any servers that collect user data.
INFORMATION STORED ONLY ON YOUR DEVICE
The following information is stored exclusively within the App's private storage area on your device:
(a) handwritten input and converted text;
(b) saved notes and documents;
(c) user preferences, including language, theme, ink style, font, and reminder settings;
(d) on-device usage statistics, such as writing streaks, weekly activity counts, and learning progress.
None of the above is transmitted to, or accessible by, the Developer.
INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT
The Developer does not collect:
(a) account or registration information;
(b) names, email addresses, or phone numbers;
(c) precise location, contacts, call logs, or microphone data;
(d) photographs - images selected for the Photo-to-Text feature are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded;
(e) analytics or tracking data of the Developer's own.
PERMISSIONS
(a) Notifications (Android 13+): used solely to deliver an optional daily writing reminder, which you may configure or disable at any time.
(b) Photos / Camera: the App invokes the standard Android system picker or camera application. The App itself does not require camera or storage permissions; access is mediated by the Android operating system.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
The App integrates the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
(a) Google ML Kit (handwriting recognition, optical character recognition, translation). Recognition is performed on-device. Language models are downloaded from Google servers when required; Google may receive standard technical information (e.g., IP address) as part of such downloads. https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/terms
(b) Google AdMob (advertising, free version only). The free version displays advertisements served by AdMob, which may process the Android advertising identifier and device information in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. The paid ("Pro") version displays no advertisements. https://policies.google.com/privacy
(c) RevenueCat (purchase management). In-app purchases and entitlements are processed by RevenueCat, which stores limited purchase-related data, including an anonymous app-scoped identifier. https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The App offers learning-oriented features and does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Developer's infrastructure. All content created by a child remains on the device. Where a third-party service described in Section 5 processes limited device identifiers, such processing is governed by that service's own privacy policy. If you believe a child has provided personal information through such a service, please contact us as described in Section 11.
DATA SECURITY
User data resides only on the device, within the Android system's protected storage sandbox, thereby minimizing exposure to external risk. Export and backup files are created solely at the user's explicit request and are stored in locations chosen and controlled by the user.
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
(a) On-device data is retained until you delete it within the App or uninstall the App; uninstallation removes all local data.
(b) Exported or backup files remain under your control and may be deleted by you at any time.
(c) The Developer retains no copies of user content.
YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
To the extent applicable under relevant data protection laws, you may access, export, correct, or delete your data directly through the App's features (export, backup, and note-deletion functions) or by uninstalling the App. You may also disable the reminder and remove advertisements via the Pro subscription at any time.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or in legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App following any change constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
