Akito Kamei

I am a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Development Innovation Lab led by Michael Kremer at the University of Chicago. My research focus is applied microeconomics specializing in human capital investment and global health in developing countries.


Prior to joining the Development Innovation Lab, I worked as a consultant at the UNICEF Office of Research – Innocenti conducting education research. I worked at the Inter-American Development Bank to evaluate a large-scale government early childhood development program. With the World Bank, I conducted research on urban poverty and labor market outcomes in Ethiopia.

I have an extensive background in project evaluation with field experience in implementing and monitoring Randomized Control Trial (RCT) in Uganda. In Nepal, I actively engaged in research dissemination to local policymakers as a policy communication fellow at the Michigan Population Studies Center (PSC).
