Akita Furusato Mura is a prefectural theme park located in Yokote, Akita. It is beloved and called "Kamakuland" by local people. In the main building, there are exhibitions that display Akita's traditional artworks, restaurants that offer its local food, souvenir shops, and an artwork-making trial booth. Right next to the main building, there is an amusement building, including a trick art museum, an athletic park called "Wonder Castle", a planetarium area "Specia", and more. Also, Akita prefectural modern museum is established together, so people can walk around and enjoy a moment depending on their needs.
Akita Furusato Mura was established on April 20th, 1994. In the first year, the visitors counted up to 630 thousand people. However, the next year, the number of visitors decreased year by year, and in 1997, it recorded only 200 thousand, which is one-third of the first year. Furusato Mura took measures to solve the situation by temporarily cutting the entrance fee, but the number did not increase. Then, it decided to re-invest in the facilities by renewing the concept of buildings and changing the exhibitions. This innovation brought an excellent result; the visitors increased to 700 thousand people in 2002, and in 2018, the total number of visitors counted up to 15 million. In 2021, it renewed again, and it introduced 4K projectors in the planetarium booth.
