Offspring Registration Options

European Brabant Registry of America offers registration options for purebred European Brabants, percentage horses, and draft crosses. Regardless of your breeding objectives, Aspen's offspring will be eligible for registration with the EBRA!

EBRA European Brabant Studbook is reserved for purebred horses (>93.75%) with the primary goal of preserving imported European Brabant bloodlines.

EBRA European Brabant Stock Studbook  recognizes qualified, quality percentage (47% verifiable European Brabant heritage) horses who may be used for the European Brabant Registry of America’s “Breed Up”  program.

EBRA Appendix Brabant Record  is designed to track and record draft crosses with European Brabant heritage, who do not meet purebred European Brabant Registry standards, as well as light horse crosses with European Brabant Heritage. Within this category, there is no limitation on progenitor draft breeds, conformation or color. The only requirement is the horse be a minimum of 25% verifiable European Brabant heritage.

AKH Aspen is a 100% European Brabant. Below are some of the examples of various pairings and resultant offspring:

We believe in promoting and preserving European Brabant bloodlines and strongly encourage mare owners to register foals with EBRA. However, AKH Aspen offspring have additional registration options with ABA, AWSSR, ADCR, and others.

Breed-specific Leg Health Considerations

Chronic progressive lymphedema (CPL) is a disorder of many heavily feathered horse breeds that presents with progressive swelling of the distal portions of the legs. This condition affects Belgians, Shires, Clydesdales, Gypsy Vanners, Cobs, Percherons, Boulonnais and Friesians. Definitive cause of onset of CPL is not known and there are numerous studies exploring this topic. CPL predisposition of Belgian draft breed requires owners to be vigilant of their horse's leg health and take necessary precautions to delay onset, as well as commitment to management if CPL should occur.

Some of the preventative steps are:

Aspen is unaffected by CPL at this time. Of course, he is still very young. We will continue to monitor his leg health and participate in EBRA's leg health reports program.

It is worth noting that there's some anecdotal evidence indicating that draft crosses have lesser incidence of CPL than high percentage Belgian horses. If your goal is to breed a draft cross, CPL predisposition could be less of a concern.
