If you want professional-grade studio accuracy with a lightweight, foldable design for creative work, choose AKG Pro Audio K371BT; if you need massive battery life and active noise cancellation for daily commuting or gaming, choose JLab.
• AKG Pro Audio K371BT: Offers an expansive 5 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response and ultra-lightweight build perfect for mixing, but lacks active noise cancellation and has a shorter 40-hour battery life. Best for teens who are serious about music production or audio editing.
• JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition: Delivers 90+ hours of playtime, adaptive active noise cancellation, and spatial audio, yet uses smaller 32mm drivers and is slightly heavier than the AKG. Best for teens seeking long-lasting entertainment, travel comfort, and immersive gaming experiences.
The AKG Pro Audio K371BT is built for the ears that demand precision. If your goal is to hear every nuance in a track, from the deepest rumble to the highest shimmer, this headphone targets those specific needs with a frequency response that stretches from 5 Hz all the way to 40 kHz. That is an extraordinary range, far wider than what most consumer headphones attempt. The secret lies in the largest-in-class 50mm transducers paired with pure oxygen-free copper voice coils. These components work together to reproduce natural, balanced audio without coloring the sound, making them an ideal tool for anyone working with audio professionally or as a serious hobbyist.
Comfort plays a massive role in why this model stands out for extended sessions. Weighing in at just 255 grams (8.9 oz), it feels almost invisible on your head compared to bulkier competitors. The over-ear, closed-back design utilizes plush, slow-retention foam pads that cradle your ears rather than pressing against them. This ergonomic approach means you can wear these for hours while mixing tracks, recording podcasts, or editing video content without the fatigue that often comes with heavy headphones. The folding mechanism adds another layer of utility, allowing you to tuck them into a carrying case and take them anywhere without worrying about damaging the earcups.

However, this product is not for everyone. It relies on passive noise cancellation only, meaning it blocks sound through physical isolation rather than electronic cancellation. If you sit on a noisy bus or a busy subway, you will still hear the engine hum unless you crank the volume. Additionally, the battery life tops out at 40 hours, which is solid but not industry-leading. You also won't find Bluetooth multipoint connectivity here; you have to disconnect from one device before connecting to another. If you are looking for a "set it and forget it" headset for casual listening where sound quality takes a backseat to convenience, this might feel too specialized. It is strictly for those who prioritize acoustic fidelity above all else.
The JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition is engineered for the modern lifestyle where silence is a luxury and battery anxiety is a real problem. Its standout feature is the sheer endurance; with up to 90 hours of total playtime without active noise cancellation and 60+ hours with it turned on, you can leave the charging dock alone for weeks. The inclusion of a wireless charging dock eliminates the hassle of hunting for cables, which is a game-changer for students or travelers who move between classes, home, and the gym. When you do need to charge, the system is designed to be seamless, ensuring you never run out of power during a critical moment.
For teens who spend hours gaming or watching movies, the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) capability is a major selling point. This system adapts to your environment and cuts environmental noise up to 42 dB, creating a quiet bubble wherever you go. The addition of Lab Spatial Audio with head tracking takes immersion further by placing sound in a three-dimensional space around you, making virtual environments feel more real. The "Be Aware" mode allows you to instantly switch off the ANC with a press of a button to hear announcements or talk to friends without removing the headphones. With four microphones and advanced algorithms, call clarity remains high even in windy or noisy conditions.
Despite its robust feature set, there are trade-offs to consider regarding raw audio fidelity. The JLab uses 32mm dynamic drivers, which are smaller than the 50mm units found in the AKG. While Hi-Res Audio certification via LDAC and AAC ensures excellent clarity, the frequency range is capped at 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, which is standard but less expansive than the AKG's 5 Hz to 40 kHz range. The build materials include faux leather, metal, and plastic, giving it a durable feel, though the earcups may feel slightly less airy than the fabric-covered AKG option. This model is perfect for the teen who wants a versatile companion for school, commute, and gaming, prioritizing features like touch controls, app customization, and multipoint connection over absolute reference-grade sound.

I would buy the JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition for a typical teenager today. While the AKG is technically superior in terms of raw frequency response, the average user cares more about staying connected, blocking out distractions, and having a battery that lasts a week. The active noise cancellation and spatial audio features make it a better fit for the chaotic reality of school and social life. For a teen specifically, the ability to connect to two devices simultaneously and enjoy 90 hours of playtime outweighs the niche benefits of studio monitoring. However, if that teen is specifically focused on becoming a producer or sound engineer, the AKG remains the undisputed king of accuracy.
The JLab Epic Lux Lab Edition is the clear choice here, offering adaptive noise cancellation that reduces environmental sounds by up to 42 dB, whereas the AKG K371BT only provides passive isolation.
They offer excellent detail, which helps in competitive scenarios, but they lack active noise cancellation and spatial audio features found in the JLab, which creates a more immersive 3D experience for gamers.
Yes, the JLab model includes a premium wireless charging dock, while the AKG K371BT requires a standard wired connection for recharging.
The JLab offers up to 90 hours of playtime, making it suitable for weeks of use without charging, while the AKG provides a respectable 40 hours before needing a recharge.
