Over two sessions, we worked with young people at Intercultural Youth Scotland (IYS) to reimagine and improve their space.
In the first session, participants explored their dream spaces and discussed what makes a space feel comfortable or uncomfortable. Using red and green post-it notes, they mapped areas of the centre based on how they felt in each. The games room was identified as an uncomfortable space, and everyone designed their own ideas to improve it. From this, we agreed on four key changes: better lighting, more storage, wall decoration, and decorated windows.
In the second session, we put those ideas into action—removing window boarding, adding decorative lettering to the window, hanging up artworks made by IYS attendees, bringing in new lighting and storage, and co-creating a fabric mural to brighten the space.
