Privacy Policy — Novel AI - AI Story Generator

This Privacy Policy explains what information Novel AI - AI Story Generator ("the App", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at aistorywriter.ios@gmail.com.

By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Summary

• You can write stories without an account. Your private stories stay on your device.

• To generate or rewrite text, the App sends your prompt and story text to our server, which sends it to OpenAI for processing.

• If you join Community, we store your profile and the stories, comments, and reactions you publish. Published content is public.

• We use Firebase (Google) for analytics and push notifications.

• We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads.

• You can delete your Community account and all of its content inside the App at any time.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you create in the App

• Stories, chapters, characters, titles, and notes you write. These are stored locally on your device unless you publish them to Community.

• Prompts and story text you submit for AI generation, rewriting, or other AI features (see Section 4).

2.2 Community account information

If you sign in to Community, we collect:

• From Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In: a unique account identifier, and your name and email address if you choose to share them. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive only a relay address.

• Information you add: username, display name, profile photo (avatar), and bio.

2.3 Content you publish to Community

• Stories and chapters you publish, comments, replies, and reactions.

• This content, together with your username, display name, avatar, and bio, is public. Anyone using the App can see it.

2.4 Usage and device information

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used. It collects:

• A random app-generated identifier (not your name, email, or Community account).

• Feature usage events, such as screens viewed and buttons tapped.

• Device model, operating system version, app version, language, approximate region (derived from IP address), and crash or performance data.

2.5 Push notification token

If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging gives your device a token so we can send you notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

2.6 Purchases

Apple processes all payments. We never receive your payment card details. We receive only the information needed to confirm your subscription status.

2.7 Photos and camera

If you choose a profile photo, the App accesses only the photo you select or take. We upload that photo as your avatar. We do not access the rest of your photo library.

2.8 What we do not collect

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, health data, or browsing history in other apps. We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide the App's features, including AI story generation and Community.

• Create and manage your Community account.

• Display your published content and profile to other users.

• Review reports, enforce our Terms & Conditions, and protect users from abuse.

• Send notifications you have allowed.

• Process and verify subscriptions.

• Understand usage, fix bugs, and improve the App.

• Respond to your support requests.

• Comply with legal obligations.

Legal bases (for users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland): we process your information to perform our contract with you (providing the App), based on our legitimate interests (security, moderation, improving the App), based on your consent (notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), and to comply with the law.

4. AI Features and OpenAI

When you use AI features, the App sends your prompt, the relevant story text, and character details to our server (hosted by Render). Our server then sends this text to OpenAI, L.L.C. to generate a response.

• We send only the text needed for the request. We do not send your name, email, or Community account details to OpenAI.

• According to OpenAI's API policies, OpenAI does not use API data to train its models, and may keep it for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse.

• Please do not include sensitive personal information (yours or anyone else's) in your prompts or stories.

AI-generated text can be inaccurate, unexpected, or similar to existing works. You are responsible for reviewing it before you publish or share it.

5. Who We Share Information With

We share information only as described here:

• Service providers who help us run the App:

  • OpenAI (AI text generation)

  • Render (our AI server)

  • Our Community server hosting provider (stores Community accounts and content)

  • Google Firebase (analytics and push notifications)

  • Apple and Google (sign-in)

  • Apple (payments and subscriptions)

• These providers may use information only to provide their services to us.

• Other users: content you publish to Community and your public profile.

• Legal reasons: when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, the public, or us.

• Business transfers: if we are part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer to the new owner under this Policy.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

6. Classics (Public-Domain Books)

The Classics feature loads public-domain books and covers from Project Gutenberg and the Gutendex service. When you browse or open a classic, these services receive your device's IP address and the book you request, as with any website. We do not send them your account information.

7. Community Moderation

To keep Community safe, users can report content and block other users. We review reports, and we may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that break our Terms & Conditions. We may keep records of reports and enforcement actions to prevent repeat abuse.

8. How Long We Keep Information

• Stories on your device: until you delete them or delete the App.

• Community account and published content: while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, stories, comments, and reactions from our live systems within 30 days. Copies in backups are removed within 90 days.

• Moderation records: up to 1 year after an enforcement action, or longer if the law requires it.

• Analytics data: kept by Firebase according to its retention settings (up to 14 months).

• We may keep information longer when the law requires it.

9. Deactivating or Deleting Your Account

In the App, go to Community → Settings:

• Deactivate Account: hides your account and content. Sign in again to reactivate it.

• Delete Account: permanently deletes your account, stories, comments, and reactions. This cannot be undone.

If you used Sign in with Apple, you can also stop using Apple ID with the App in iOS Settings → [your name] → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple.

You can also email aistorywriter.ios@gmail.com to ask us to delete your data.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.

• Correct inaccurate information.

• Delete your information.

• Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.

• Object to or restrict certain processing.

• Withdraw consent at any time.

• Complain to your local data protection authority.

California residents: you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information. We will not discriminate against you for using your rights.

To use any of these rights, email aistorywriter.ios@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first.

11. Children

You must be at least 13 years old to create a Community account. If the law in your country requires a higher age to consent to data processing (up to 16 in the EEA and UK), you need permission from a parent or guardian.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your device and Apple or Google account secure.

13. International Transfers

We and our service providers may process your information in the United States and other countries. These countries may have different data protection laws from yours. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date. If the changes are significant, we will notify you in the App. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the updated Policy.
