AirPolygon is a Pneumatic UI design that allows you to incorporate the air that you come into contact with on a daily basis into your daily life. This is a scientific research jointly conducted by Keio University's Graduate School of Media Design and Nippon Television Network Corporation.
AirPolygon was developed as a transparent sheet that allows users to inflate flat objects in their home with the power of air. The main use is to attach it to LCD displays and glass windows, and it was created to expand the design space. However, the sheet is so soft that it may not be limited to flat objects now, e.g. fashion and daily items.
HOW TO USE
First, users decide which flat object in their home they would like to design with air. Next, decide on the shape you want to inflate with air. AirPolygon supports a variety of shapes. You can create complex shapes like fried eggs and hearts. Once you have decided on the shape, try simulating the shape using special software. AirPolygon also automatically creates air circuits. Finally, use a laser cutter to make a transparent sheet. If you don't have a laser cutter at home, there may be a service that delivers it by mail.
AirPolygon has been selected by ACM to demonstrate emerging technologies at an international conference. Additionally, multiple applications have been announced at exhibition venues such as Maker Faire 2022 and 2023.
Modern society pursues efficient UI design, and our lives are filled with various flat objects. we want to make designs that are softer and have a gentler atmosphere that children will enjoy.
