Delta Connection was founded in 1984 as a means of expanding the Delta network to smaller markets via partnerships with regional airlines. The first Delta Connection service was operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) on March 1, 1984, from their hub at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Over the years, Delta Connection has grown to include several regional carriers, such as Comair, SkyWest Airlines, and Republic Airways.
Delta Connection flights are primarily short- and medium-haul routes, providing increased frequencies and serving routes that may not sustain larger aircraft. This network has been crucial in connecting smaller markets to Delta's larger hubs, enhancing the overall reach of Delta Air Lines.
