Air Force Recruiting,
Lake Havasu City
Your Recruiter
I’m MSgt William Hill. Most people Just call me Will. I am an active duty enlisted Air Force recruiter in lake Havasu City, AZ. I have been in the Air Force 13 years and have been stationed in Mountain Home, ID( Mtn Home AFB), Spangdahlem , Germany( Spangdahlem, AB) and now Lake Havasu City, Arizona. I’m married, have a daughter and a son, and a french bulldog. I'm originally from Oregon and after I graduated high school I worked for my fathers welding business for a couple years and then became a wild land firefighter and went to community college and realized I needed something MORE. I wanted a better way to pay for school, to travel, to learn how to DO something, to become independent and create real opportunities for myself.
I reached out to my Air Force recruiter and came in with open general. I picked the job Fire protection at basic training and my first job at Mtn Home AFB had me working as a firefighter apprentice. Learning the ins and outs of basic fire fighting from structural fires to aircraft fires. From there I moved into being a driver operator to being able to control the fire truck and drive to emergencies. After that I requested a permanent change of station to Germany to become a crew chief to be able to run a 4-6 man crew and have control of emergencies as well to see the world. After a few years I put in for recruiting and to moved to Arizona and now I’m here to help YOU get started. Text me directly to setup an appointment. I’m happy to answer any questions you have to help you get started.
How does the process work?
If you have a simple process it should take 3-4 months before you ship out to basic training in San Antonio, TX. Each recruiter may run their process a little bit differently depending on the area they are assigned to. Here’s how I run it out of the Upland, CA office.
Step 1: Get prequalified. I’ll pre-screen you over the phone to check for any red flags that are disqualifying to enter such as serious medical issues/law violations/drug use/etc. I’ll send you a practice test you can take at home to give you an idea of how you'll score on the ASVAB. If your pre-screen and practice test scores are good to go, i'll schedule your initial appointment.
Step 2: We’ll hold an initial appointment over the phone. I will build you a profile in our system and we will review all necessary paperwork. I will provide you a background check packet that must be completed by your next appointment. We will go over all benefits, answer any questions, ensure you’re ready to join, and are open to current Air Force needs. Air Force needs currently include all mechanical aptitude jobs, electronics aptitude jobs, security forces, and special warfare positions. While we have 135+ career fields available and book a wide variety regularly, we cannot guarantee or create positions based on applicants wants.
Until MEPS reopens for new applicants your process will pause here.
Step 3: I will have you come by the office for an extremely brief and social distanced meeting. The goal here is to minimize contact. This should take no longer than 15 minutes. You will wait in the parking lot while your documents are prepared. I will drop them off at your car once completed.
Step 4: Once your background check and profile are completed I will submit a scheduling request to MEPS for your ASVAB and physical. We'll complete your MEPS brief over the phone or Facetime to ensure you are prepared to go to MEPS. The physical is not a PT test. The physical will be checking qualifying factors such as vision, hearing, blood tests, drug tests, etc
Step 5: MEPS will be taking precautions and will be screening everyone for covid-19 traits or exposure upon arrival. Once scheduled for MEPS you will go down and complete your testing on the first day. You’ll spend the night at a hotel nearby free of charge and do your physical the next day. Once the testing and physical is complete you will know what jobs you are qualified to do based on academic and physical results. You will complete the oath of enlistment, swear into the Air Force, and be a new member in the delayed entry program (DEP).
Step 6: The delayed entry program (DEP) is everyone who is qualified and waiting to book a job or has booked a job and is waiting for their ship date. We will complete your DEP briefing and create a list of jobs that you would like to request over the phone. You will never be forced into anything that you are not qualified for or requesting.
Step 7: Once a month our operations center will receive 100+ contracts. At this point they will review every DEP member in Southern California and Arizona that does not have a job and will align contracts based on applicant's request and Air force needs. Air Force needs currently include all mechanical jobs, electronics jobs, security forces, and special warfare positions. Once you book a job you’ll receive a date to leave for basic training typically within the next 1-3 months.
