This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and handled when you use Retro 80s Camera (the "App").
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how data is processed.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
1. Personal Data
The App does not require user accounts and does not collect personal information that directly identifies you, such as your name, email address, or physical address, unless you voluntarily contact us for support.
The App uses anonymous authentication (Firebase Authentication) to manage sessions. This creates a random identifier that is not linked to your personal identity.
2. User Content (Photos)
When you use the App, you may choose to upload photos from your device to generate AI-styled 1980s-themed portraits.
- Uploaded photos are used only to generate the requested images.
- Photos are processed on secure servers to perform AI image generation.
- Uploaded images are not used for advertising purposes.
- Uploaded images are not used to train AI models.
- Uploaded images are temporarily stored during processing and automatically deleted after generation is complete.
3. Face Data
Uploaded photos typically contain the face of the person using the App (and, if a group photo is uploaded, the faces of everyone in it). As a result, the App may process face data contained within user-provided images.
What face data is collected:
- The App does not collect biometric identifiers.
- The App does not analyze, identify, recognize, or verify individuals.
- Face data is processed only as part of the image itself to generate the requested portrait.
Purpose of face data processing:
- Face data is processed solely to generate the AI 1980s-style portrait requested by the user.
- Face data is not used for identity verification, tracking, profiling, or analytics.
- Face data is not used for training AI models.
Retention of face data:
- Uploaded images (including any face data they may contain) are stored only for the duration of the image generation process.
- Images are automatically deleted within a short period after processing (typically within minutes) once generation is completed.
- If the user saves the generated image to their device or to the App's on-device "Shoebox" gallery, it is stored locally on the user's device only — we do not have access to it and it is never uploaded back to our servers.
- The App does not store face data indefinitely.
4. Diagnostic & Analytics Data
The App collects limited, non-identifiable diagnostic data to improve stability and performance, including:
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
- Performance metrics
- App usage statistics (Firebase Analytics)
- Device model and operating system version
This data does not include uploaded photos or face data.
Use of Information
Information collected by the App is used to:
- Generate AI 1980s-style portraits requested by the user
- Operate and improve the App
- Monitor app performance and stability
- Provide customer support
- Manage subscriptions and in-app purchases
AI Image Processing and Third Parties
To generate AI 1980s-style portraits, uploaded photos are processed by trusted third-party AI processing service providers.
Third-party processing:
- Google Gemini AI is used to generate stylized 1980s-style portraits from uploaded photos.
- Images are sent securely to Google's servers for processing and are not retained after generation.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS S3) is used for temporary image storage during processing. Images are deleted immediately after generation is complete.
Third parties are contractually required to:
- Use images only for providing the requested service
- Not store images longer than necessary
- Not use images for training or advertising
The App does not sell or rent face data or images to third parties.
Other third-party services used:
- Firebase (Google) - authentication, analytics, crash reporting
- RevenueCat - subscription and in-app purchase management (does not receive photos or face data)
Subscriptions and Payments
The App offers optional paid subscriptions (weekly, monthly, and annual plans) as well as optional one-time credit top-up purchases.
- All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store.
- The App does not collect or store payment information.
- Subscriptions and top-up purchases include generation credits ("coins"). Coins are not deleted when a subscription lapses, but can only be redeemed while a subscription is active.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect user data, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS) and secure server infrastructure.
However, no system can guarantee absolute security.
Age Requirement (13+)
The App is intended for users aged 13 years and older.
We do not knowingly collect data from users under the age of 13. If such data is discovered, it will be deleted promptly.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Request access to your data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict data processing
- Data portability

Data Retention
- Uploaded photos: deleted immediately after AI generation is complete
- Generated images: not stored on our servers (returned to your device only, and optionally kept in the App's on-device Shoebox gallery)
- Anonymous user identifiers: retained while your app session is active
- Analytics data: retained in aggregated, non-identifiable form
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted within the App or made available to users.
