Jane Hanson was a busy and successful professional singer, conductor, and voice teacher. In June of 2010, she was hospitalized with a brain infection of unknown origin, and later for a neurological attack. She was subsequently diagnosed with relapsing-remitting Multiple Sclerosis and was bedridden for over a year. In 2017, she was diagnosed with fluoroquinolone toxicity. Response to creative prompt: "When I look in the mirror, I see..."
As someone who suffers with chronic illness, I am hopeful that my work will resonate with readers. My aim is to express my circumstances in such a way that those who suffer will feel a deep sense of kinship, and those who do not suffer will accept my work as an invitation to inhabit someone else’s skin for a moment.
