Paula Salome Gomes Lopes, known professionally as PSG Lopes or The Moonlit Goddess, is a Portuguese-American self-published author of three poetry anthologies (Dark Musings Poetry Anthologies: Volumes 1, 2, and 3), two children’s books (Little Stan’s Lucky Day and My Pápá and Me: A Children’s Book About Our Journey With Dementia), and two novellas (A Wynter’s Tale and John of Art). Ms. Lopes’ books are available as either e-book, paperback, and/or audiobook through Amazon.

In 2009, she won 3rd place in UNICO’s Ella T. Grasso writing competition for her short story “A Breath of Freedom.” This short story is featured in her Dark Musings Poetry Anthology: Volume 2. Ms. Lopes was also featured in three separate newspapers celebrating her vast artistic achievements.

All of her work is written, edited, formatted, and illustrated by herself. She also creates her own book covers and artwork for each work. Ms. Lopes was fortunate enough to make a wonderful connection and good friend who produced both of her audiobooks for her novellas which are featured on Amazon’s Audible. Aside from writing, Ms. Lopes also exhibits her talents through photography, screenwriting, digital artistry and illustration, as well as songwriting. Her three self-penned songs, “In Recovery,” “John of Art,” and “Despite Utter Chaos,” are featured on her Band Camp website.

The manuscript for her short story collection entitled, The Birds Sing at Dawn; I Weep at Dusk, was submitted to several traditional publishing companies. She hopes this manuscript will be her first formally published work through traditional avenues someday. Her completed six-episode television screenplay, Desert Showgirls, is currently being shopped around to several networks in hopes of one day being produced into a television program.

Ms. Lopes is a caregiver to her father who is bedbound with advanced dementia. A lifelong sufferer of depression and anxiety, Ms. Lopes utilizes her knowledge of mental health and craftily integrates her own experiences as she weaves them into her works. The majority of her work reflects on several themes ranging from mental health awareness, depression, anxiety, dementia, PTSD, body positivity, and other important topics in an attempt to raise awareness and help limit stigma for those who struggle. Ms. Lopes writes stories that both intrigue and question society while attempting to bring everyone together despite the very thing that threatens to tear everyone apart—our own unique differences. Ms. Lopes aims to bridge the gap and unite us as one amalgamated planet through the written word and through her art.

In 2020, Ms. Lopes will be working on creating her first graphic novel along with her first photobook and memoir.

Response to creative prompt: "When I look in the mirror, I see..."

"Who I used to be" In this photo: this is the person I wish I was. I wish I was alluring, seductive, beautiful, mysterious, attractive, appealing, confident and brave. Struggling through years of depression and anxiety, I feel none of these things. My self-esteem is the lowest it has ever been in my entire life. I don’t feel accomplished or worthy and the mask I’m wearing, hints at my propensity to shy away from the public eye even with my aspirations of being all of those positive attributes aforementioned.
