We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the Land on which our work is conducted and pay our respects to the Elders both past and present. We recognise this Land was never ceded.
This site presents an AI-powered mobile app prototype, called DeafmobDoRite, designed to improve communication for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Aboriginal Australians (Deaf mob).
Funded by AIATSIS, this project was brought to life to address the challenges faced by those who don't use Auslan fluently or lack access to appropriate interpreters. While useful in any communication context, our focus is on health and justice system situations.
The app prioritizes community ownership and celebrates the rich diversity of Aboriginal sign languages, some facing extinction. With the ability to document Aboriginal sign languages, the app also offers a potential avenue for cultural preservation.
We seek funding to fully develop this prototype, fostering digital skills and empowering Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals to live more independently.

Meet David, a proud Wiradjuri man, facing communication barriers in the legal system.
David doesn't use Auslan, he relies on 'home sign' with close ones, problematic in legal settings.
Lack of appropriate interpreters exacerbates challenges in legal and healthcare interactions.
DeafmobDoRite empowers users like David with real-time translation and personalized communication.
