Thank you for using AI Text Translator (the Extension), developed by Langforce. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding information when you use the Extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
1. Information We Handle
The Extension handles the following types of information solely to provide its functionality:
User-Provided Text: The text content that you select on a webpage or manually type into the Extension's interface for the explicit purpose of translation.
API Keys: Your personal API keys for third-party services (Google Gemini and/or OpenAI), which you voluntarily provide within the Extension's settings to enable translation features.
Configuration Settings: Your chosen preferences, such as the default target language, selected API provider (Google Gemini or OpenAI), specific AI model, preferred translation style, custom style instructions (if provided), and the saved position and size of the in-page popup interface.
We DO NOT collect or store your Browse history, cookies, personal identifiers, or any other information unrelated to the core translation functionality.
2. How We Use Information
The information handled by the Extension is used strictly as follows:
User-Provided Text: This text is transmitted directly to the API of the third-party translation service you have selected (Google Gemini or OpenAI) solely to perform the translation you requested. The Extension does not store this text locally or remotely after the translation is displayed to you.
API Keys: Your API keys are stored locally on your device using the secure chrome.storage.local browser API. They are used only to authenticate requests made directly from your browser to the selected third-party translation service (Google Gemini or OpenAI) when you initiate a translation. Your API keys are never transmitted to our servers or any other third party by the Extension.
Configuration Settings & Popup State: These settings are stored locally using chrome.storage.local purely for your convenience, allowing the Extension to remember your preferences and the interface layout across sessions. This data is not transmitted anywhere.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share any information handled by the Extension, except in the following limited circumstance required for functionality:
Third-Party Translation Services: To deliver translations, the text you provide must be sent to the API of the service you have configured (Google Gemini or OpenAI). Your use of these services is governed by their respective privacy policies and terms of service. We encourage you to read those policies carefully to understand how your data is managed.
No Other Sharing: We reiterate that your API Keys, Configuration Settings, and Popup State are stored locally on your device and are never shared with or transmitted to the developer of this Extension or any other third party.
4. Data Storage and Security
Local Storage: All data managed by the Extension (API Keys, Configuration Settings, Popup State) resides exclusively within your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own device.
Security Practices: We rely on the security measures inherent in the chrome.storage.local API and your browser. The Extension does not implement any separate tracking mechanisms or insecure data storage practices. Please be aware that data stored locally within the browser, while generally secure, could potentially be accessed by individuals with advanced technical skills and physical access to your device or browser profile.
5. User Rights and Data Deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it. You may delete all stored data associated with the Extension by:
Uninstalling the Extension from your browser.
Manually clearing the Extension's stored data via your browser’s settings (usually under “Clear browsing data” > “Cookies and other site data” or in specific extension settings).
6. Third-Party Services
The Extension interacts with the following third-party services based on your configuration. We strongly recommend reviewing their privacy policies:
Google (for Gemini API): https://policies.google.com/privacy
OpenAI (for OpenAI API): https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
This Privacy Policy does not govern or apply to the data practices of these third-party services. We do not control and are not responsible for how they handle your data.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, regulatory, or operational reasons. Any changes will become effective immediately upon posting the updated policy, and the "Last Updated" date at the top will be revised accordingly. Where appropriate, significant changes may also be communicated through the Chrome Web Store listing or within the Extension itself.
