Music & Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown Book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn

THE STORY: A hilarious, coming-of-age musical about discovering that "cool" is sometimes where we least expect it.

Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty Queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that can last a lifetime. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents divorce. Surrounded by an array of simple minded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?

The stories that come to life here are ageless, the emotions they explore timeless, the laughter and the memories they provide priceless.

MTI rates this show as PG.

Audition Information

Auditions and Call Backs: Tuesday, December 3rd at 3 PM and Wednesday, December 4th at 3 PM.

Audition Principals

The Audition Process will be guided by the following principals:

  • Students will not be excluded from being cast simply because they are inexperienced.
  • The casting procedures will be professional and respectful—keeping in mind all actors face rejection all the time, and feel it.
  • All students are welcome to audition.
  • Everyone can act, and does so every single day.

Audition Method

Anyone with a grain of compassion hates auditions. You know that you are going to hurt someone’s feelings, no matter what you do. Unfortunately, no one has ever found a better way to cast a play. You have to audition. There are many audition methods built around answering particular questions. This audition requires a prepared song.

Anyone auditioning will sing a song from the show. Songs must be memorized. Choose a song from the choices given that are most appropriate to your range and temperament. Prepare your song in advance. The audition should be an artful display of your acting and singing ability. Accompanying your when you audition will be a recording.

We will look for four things when you audition:

1. Showing off your ability as a singer.

2. Demonstrating your abilities as a musician.

3. Using your skills as an actor.

4. Showing off your ability to carry a role.

We will post song choices in November.

Framework of Auditions

  • The audition material will not be available until the audition.
  • Auditions will be open only to those auditioning.

Students will not be cast or placed in a crew position if their Audition/Crew Forms are not in. Forms will be available in November.
