The SJCS swim teams extended their streaks at Saturday's Region 1-1A meet at Greenville Aquatic Center, with the boys winning their seventh consecutive region championship and the girls capturing their fifth straight.

Junior Owen Byrd won Region Swimmer of the Year in the boys meet. He won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke and was on the Knights' victorious 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams. Byrd was joined on the All-Region team by Evan Harman, Jack Weston, Connor Farrell and Michael Permanente.

Eighth-grader Odette Brown won Region Swimmer of the Year in the girls meet. She placed first in the 100 and 200 freestyle events and was on winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Brown was joined on the All-Region team by Elizabeth Weston, Bella Stewart, Riley Reed, Maggie Farrell, Claire Do and Rachel Overton.

SJCS Head Coach Becky Van Evera said she and Assistant Coach Karen Miros "were so impressed with how the team performed and pulled together to make this meet a huge success."

On Monday, the swimmers played water polo. Tuesday was "Anything But a Water Bottle Day," with swimmers bringing anything to drink out of except a water bottle. There were pots, pans, condiment bottles and dog food bowls to name a few. They also did fun relays at the end of practice. 152ee80cbc
