June Newsletter 2018
From the President:
What a great year it has been so far! We have had three successful competitions as well as one fun show. Our next competition is scheduled for June 23rd and right now the weather looks like it will cooperate. That being said, we will probably not need our rain date for a pleasure/gymkhana competition (scheduled on July 7th), which means we will have our second fun show! Keep in mind, the July 7th show/fun show will have a patriotic-theme to it; please plan accordingly and show your patriotic side! We will be hosting a bake sale during our show/fun show on July 7th, so come prepared to buy some yummy treats and support the club. Also, if anyone is interested in donating some baked goods to the cause, please let a board member know by July 3rd.
For those of you who weren't at the June meeting, please be sure to look at the minutes for updates. One item I would like to point out is that we have revamped our volunteer Signup Genius and will be using it going forward. If you did not receive a Signup Genius email for the June 9th show, please be sure to notify me so I can add you to the email list.
Finally, as some of you are aware, Apryl is unable to fulfill the time obligations associated with the Secretary position. She has gracefully agreed to continue to assist until we find a replacement. Nonetheless, please let me or another board member know if you are interested in this position. For the requirements/qualifications please see the bylaws on the website (www.aurorahorsemens.org).
Thank you again for your continued support of AHA by spreading the word to other horse enthusiasts. AHA welcomes volunteers, new participants, and sponsors with open arms. Until next time, thank you for all that you do!
Kim Garrett, AHA President
In the Spotlight:
Meet our Ribbons/Trophies Chair: Tracey Christopher
1-How did you first become interested in equestrian activities? I've loved horses since I was a little girl; it just took me 50-years to realize my dreams. But, as the saying goes ... it's never too late.
2-What is your most memorable experience? I remember riding a naughty pony who dumped me in the river and ran back to the barn with the saddle flapping the whole way. I got to walk back soaking wet. No one said a word to me, just smiled and went back to work.
3- What do you want to get from this community? I'm hoping AHA will help my daughter grow her horsemanship, develop a genuine relationship with her horse, and to meet new friends along the way.
4-Who are you outside of AHA? Outside AHA, I own a mortgage company. We have 3 children. Our son is in the Army ROTC program, our daughter is applying to Law School and our youngest daughter keeps us busy with her horses and cattle.

Fun Facts and Tidbits:
Heather Ledbetter from Safe and Sound Equine Bodywork has generously donated an hour long equine massage to AHA. Keep your eyes peeled for more info on how to get this certificate. In the meantime, here is some more information about her services:
- Safe and Sound Equine Bodywork was started by therapist Heather Ledbetter in 2014. Heather works on horses of every discipline from top competitors to weekend warrior trail horses. Massage can help to improve circulation throughout the body, relieve tight muscles, as well as to improve flexibility and range of motion. Heather uses a unique blend of traditional therapeutic and sports massage techniques with release techniques in key areas of the body to create an effective therapy session for each horse. Outside of her massage business, Heather is also an Instructor of equine sports massage at the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage in Franktown, CO. When she isn't working or spending time with her family, Heather enjoys riding her own horse on the trail and competing in local shows.
