Ahad grew up in Bangladesh, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering from the Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET). He began his career as a research faculty member at the Institute of River, Harbor, and Environmental Science, where he spent four years conducting research projects in Coastal Engineering.
In the 2020s, Ahad moved to the United States and started his PhD at the University of South Carolina. His doctoral research focused on the life cycle of flood risk management. His research helped to understand risk informed decision making using decision support tool for multi-driver coastal and inland floods, integrating food modeling, mapping and intelligent management techniques. Accomplishing his doctoral research, Ahad joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Water Resources Science and Engineering Group. Currently, he is working on reservoirs' hydro-thermal modeling to mitigate non-compliance risks in hydropower reservoirs under the challenges of climate change.
