Dr. Mark Luborsky
He is a professor of anthropology and gerontology at Wayne State, and he studies how the external environment affects how individuals age. He is also the leader of the Aging & Health Disparities research program offered by Wayne State’s Institute of Gerontology.
I reached out to him and I am planning on asking him the following questions:
What is it like to be involved in the field of gerontology?
I have become interested in the field of gerontology and I wanted to get a better idea of how it is to be part of such a field.
What are some challenges that you may experience as a gerontologist that you would not experience if you were another type of researcher?
This is another question that will allow me to get a feel of what it is like to be a gerontologist especially since I think there will be many challenges one may face dealing with the elderly population.
What are the hot topics of research that are currently being investigated in gerontology?
I am honestly interested to know whether the study of how social circumstances affect elder people is on that list.
Do you think it is possible for the study of the influence of external social factors on the process of cellular aging to become a sub-branch of the anti-aging research field where improving circumstances may slow down the onset of the process of aging in individuals?
This question relates to the focus of my research and it will allow me to get an expert's opinion on whether the relationship between social circumstances and the process of aging could truly become an independent field in gerontology.
