At AOC (Agents of Change), we are dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery from substance abuse, while actively involving their families and support systems every step of the way.
We believe that recovery is not just an individual experience—it’s a collective journey that thrives on connection, understanding, and sustained support. Our programs are designed to treat the whole person, not just the addiction, with a strong emphasis on family engagement and long-term healing.
Recovery is a deeply personal journey, but it doesn't have to be an isolating one. Involving family members in a meaningful, informed, and compassionate way can provide the love, understanding, and structure that a person in recovery needs. It turns the process from a solo climb into a supported ascent — where every step forward is shared, and every setback is met with empathy, not judgment. Together, families can become a powerful force for healing, growth, and lasting recovery.
The Story of AOC: From the Shadows to a Beacon of Hope
In 2020, as the world grappled with the uncertainty and isolation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, a quiet yet powerful movement began — one rooted in compassion, resilience, and second chances. AOC was born during this difficult time, built by individuals who saw the silent struggles of ex-offenders, many of whom were left vulnerable, stigmatized, and without direction.
With the pandemic shutting down many in-person services and support systems, the needs of ex-offenders became even more urgent. They faced not only the challenge of reintegration but also deepened isolation, financial hardship, and limited access to guidance. That’s where AOC stepped in — quietly, anonymously, and wholeheartedly.
We started small, working behind the scenes. No spotlight. No recognition. Just a determination to show up for those society often overlooks. Whether it was lending an ear, connecting someone to a job opportunity, or simply reminding someone that they still matter — AOC became a silent companion in a noisy, uncertain world.
But over time, our efforts began to ripple outward. The lives we touched began to grow stronger, and the stories of hope we helped write spoke for themselves. Eventually, we were welcomed into the Desistor's Network Ground-Up Initiative — a moment of recognition that felt like a warm embrace. It validated not just our mission, but the struggles and victories of every ex-offender we’ve walked alongside.
Today, we carry that same spirit forward — humble, committed, and proud. Proud of the people we've supported. Proud of the journeys we've witnessed. Proud that what began as an anonymous act of service is now a growing, trusted initiative grounded in lived experience, empathy, and unwavering belief in the potential of every person to change and thrive.
AOC isn’t just a group — it’s a movement of heart. And we’re proud to still be here, growing, learning, and standing beside those who need it most.
But our journey didn’t stop there. AOC is not just about helping ex-offenders rebuild their lives — it’s also about empowering them to give back. Our members are living proof that people can change, grow, and do good. They return to the community not as outcasts, but as contributors — leading by example and challenging the stigma that society often attaches to a criminal record.
Whether through volunteering, mentoring, or simply showing up with kindness, our members are shifting the narrative. They are proof that recovery and reintegration are not just possible — they’re powerful.
Today, AOC stands proud. Proud of where we started, proud of how far we've come, and proud of every individual who now walks with dignity, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging. We are still growing, still learning, and still believing in the strength of second chances — together.
