Recess and Afterschool

Marek has been working for J at School for about 3 years, this last year as the Onsite Program Coordinator at Andrew Jackson Elementary. He went to school at Northeastern Illinois University for a BA in History and is currently looking to get his teacher certification. He has worked with students all the way from Pre-K at Mikolai Korpernik Polish School in Niles to the high school level when he was student observing at Bogan High School. During his free time he is an avid musician and teaches guitar lessons privately. Providing kids with a safe and creatively enriching environment is his top priority when working with the J at School programs.

Dylan Scott

Dylan has been working with for J at School for 3 years. This is his 2nd year as Assistant Site Lead at Agassiz. Dylan received a degree in Film Studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2012 and moved to Chicago soon after. Out side of work you can find Dylan all around Chicago dressed as a bat fighting crime.

Hello, my name is Yissel Hernandez. I am a college graduate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earning my degree in Psychology. I enjoy listening to all sorts of music with the hope of one day getting the chance to learn to play piano. This upcoming school year will be my fourth year working with J at School. Every child who I have been given the opportunity to meet and work with knows how much I enjoy my job. What makes it really enjoyable is how carefree, silly, caring, sweet, curious, and innocent they are. Not only are their characteristics awesome but when kids start seeing you as a friend is truly an amazing feeling. Knowing you have gained their trust and they can rely on you with anything is honestly the best feeling with working with children.

Gerri Gibson

Recess

Since 1993, I have been conducting photography programs for youth. I have a Bachelors of Arts in photography from Columbia College. For over 10 years I was on the Illinois Arts Council Arts in Education Artist Roster. I have had numerous solo and group exhibitions. I have also received numerous arts grants. I want to make a difference in the lives of the students that I come in contact with and hopefully make them successful students. In my spare time I love to research my family history. I have traced my family back to the mid 1800’s.

Jonathon Capers

Jonathon Capers, 26, moved to Chicago from North Carolina in April. He studied History at UNC Greensboro, and moved to Chicago to pursue stand up comedy.

Jesse Kegan is an independent artist and musician based in Chicago from birthday parties, to private personalized lessons. Jesse has vast experience in educating children with the wonders of the performing arts.

My name is Alexus Luellen. I currently attend Daley College for nursing. I've been in child care now for almost five years & I love working with children. This fall I'm expecting a little one of my own. I'm a very good person & hard worker. Thank you guys for having me!

Sarah Vulpio

I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but moved to Chicago to pursue standup comedy. I love working with kids because their intelligence and humor always brightens my day. When I'm not at school, I'm writing jokes, walking dogs, and riding my bike around the city!

Andrea Goldstein

Regional Program Director

Andrea brings more than two decades of experienced leadership to J at School. Andrea is most recognized as the founding director of Apachi Chicago J Camp, responsible for the creation and expansion of our day camps throughout the city of Chicago. Her management skills, child development knowledge and commitment to excellence are second to none. As a parent of fourth grade twin boys, she understands the importance of after-school programming that exceeds the expectations of parents and children.
