It is important to teach children to grow up with a positive ethno-racial identity. Cognitive development is closely linked to daily conversations at certain times for a long time. Talking to children about race and color is important to do at an early age, to create a sense of belonging in the little ones. instilling a positive racial identity, and “bias preparedness” is very important; Feeling proud of children is very important for their social and emotional development.
Is to intentionally create a positive sense of belonging in children, that is, it is to help them form positive perceptions of black people. All children need to understand their origin, their customs, their cultures and the value of it.
Instructing children with daily positive messages helps the child grow up, secure, aware of their value as an Afro. such as:
“You should be proud to be black.”
“Never be ashamed of your hair, skin color.”
“You are someone special, no matter what others say.”
Teaching about Afro heritage, through different pedagogical and didactic activities, it is important to implement it from an early age, for example.
- talk about meaning and belonging to a race.
- play with dolls that represent African-American people.
- read children's books that positively represent black people and focus on African-American identity.

Children can notice physical differences, such as skin color, from before they are one year old. Several studies have revealed that, around age 5, children can show signs of racial prejudice, such as treating people from one racial group more favorably than those from other groups. Ignoring this issue does not help protect children; On the contrary, it is leaving them exposed to discrimination. Children who face racism may feel left out as they try to understand why they are being treated in a certain way, which in turn can affect their long-term development and well-being.
