Face 2 Face is the debut album by 2face Idibia. It was released on May 15, 2004. It became a major hit (sold up to 2 million copies)[citation needed] initially in Idibia's home country of Nigeria, but quickly spread through western and southern Africa, and eventually making an impact in Europe as well. Its success owed much to lead radio track "African Queen", a guitar ballad with elements of West African folk music and hip-hop. "Nfana Ibaga" also became a local hit.

Formed in 1981 by former members of Marine, funky ensemble Allez Allez issued popular mini-album African Queen before moving onto a major label for Promises, produced by Martyn Ware of Heaven 17/BEF.

In August Marine came to London to open for rising stars Altered Images, and record the BBC session at Maida Vale. Unhappily the fractious group imploded in the studio, with the result that Marc retained the name, while the rest of the band elected to continue as Allez Allez. Debut mini-album African Queen was quickly recorded in Brussels, though the new band quit Crpuscule for Scalp, a new label overseen by rock critic Gilles Verlant. The title was, incidently, an homage to Grace Jones. Thanks to the sprightly title track (also issued as a single) this debut sold in large numbers, boasting spirited vocals, funky drums, exuberant choppy guitars and lots of horns. Contemporary comparisons ranged from James Chance to A Certain Ratio to Ze Records. It was Crpuscule's loss.

Stylish and glamorous jeunesse dore, Allez Allez signed to major label Virgin in 1982 and recorded their second album in London and Brussels with producer Martyn Ware, of Heaven 17 and the British Electric Foundation. The group co-produced Promises as the International Dance Music Corporation; Sarah Osborne also met and later married Heaven 17 singer Glenn Gregory. Flesh and Blood and Valley of the Kings were issued as singles, promoted by shows including 'new jazz' event The Joy of Mooching at the London ICA in August, a performance at an empty Haienda in Manchester, and the more populous Torhout-Werchter festival in Belgium. Poised sophomore album Promises was released in November, issued in different sleeves around Europe, the UK edition reflecting the influence of Mondrian and De Stijl.

Anglique first met Ibrahim in New York during her project on Oum Kalthoum, and was greatly impressed by his musicality. Loving to create links between cultures to highlight our common humanity, when she met Ibrahim on Roosevelt Island, they searched together for a story linking Africa to the Middle East. They found the great myth of the Queen of Sheba, an African queen who came to meet King Solomon to see if he deserved his reputation as a great sage. According to the Old Testament, the Bible and the Koran, legend has it that the Queen of Sheba asked the king some riddles. Angelica told some of these riddles to Ibrahim. They were so poetic that Ibrahim had the idea of creating a song for each of the riddles. After much research, Angelique chose seven riddles to tell the love story between Makeda, the Queen of Sheba, and King Solomon. Ibrahim then transformed these poems into music, creating a piece in seven beats, mixing African grooves with oriental sounds and melodies.

Anglique Kidjo, a true spokesperson for world music and winner of five Grammy awards, and Ibrahim Maalouf, winner of the most prestigious awards in France and internationally, will unveil the album "Queen of Sheba" on 17 June.
