If you want a non-invasive, side-sleeping solution that rests comfortably on the outer ear without pressure, choose Afflatus Ear Plugs; if you need adjustable sound isolation modes and a perfect in-ear fit for varied activities like swimming or concerts, choose Clicar Ear Plugs.
• Afflatus Ear Plugs: Strength lies in its patented bionic design that hugs the auricle for zero-pressure side sleeping; the trade-off is it offers a fixed 26dB reduction with no mode switching. This pick is for those who prioritize comfort over silence and struggle with side-sleeping discomfort.
• Clicar Ear Plugs: Strength is found in its three-switchable modes (Quiet, Engage, Experience) and four distinct sizes for a custom seal; the trade-off is the in-ear insertion required, which some find less comfortable for all-night wear than external plugs. This pick is for users who need versatility across different environments, from snoring partners to live events.
The Afflatus Ear Plugs are engineered for a specific type of user: someone who has tried traditional foam or silicone plugs that hurt their ears after an hour. Their patented design creates a unique "snug ear-hug fit" that sits on the outside of the ear canal rather than forcing material deep inside. This approach eliminates the risk of increasing pressure within the ear canal, a common complaint with in-ear devices during long-term use. The design specifically targets the shape of the auricle, ensuring the plugs stay secure even when you toss and turn on your side. If you are a side sleeper, this feature alone makes them a compelling option because they won't press against your pillow or shift position throughout the night.
For professionals attending webinars or students studying in noisy environments, these plugs offer a reliable way to block unwanted high-frequency noise up to 26 decibels. The material is imported Japanese silicone, certified as skin-friendly and RoHS compliant, meaning they are safe for extended contact with sensitive skin. They are also waterproof and washable, making them reusable and easy to maintain hygiene standards over time. You get two pairs in the box—one small and one large—accommodating different ear sizes for adults and kids alike.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you require total silence or need to adjust your hearing based on your immediate environment, the fixed 26dB rating might feel limiting. You cannot "turn down" the volume to hear a conversation clearly without removing the plugs entirely. Furthermore, because they rely on an external seal, they may not perform as well in extremely chaotic, low-frequency heavy environments compared to a deep-seal in-ear device. If you are looking for a high-tech solution that lets you switch between listening modes instantly, this passive, bionic design will not meet that specific need. It is a dedicated sleep and focus tool, not a multi-purpose audio interface.

Clicar Ear Plugs take a fundamentally different approach by going directly into the ear canal. Their primary appeal is the versatility offered through a dial switch that allows users to toggle between three distinct relief modes: Quiet, Engage, and Experience. In Quiet Mode, the device reduces noise to within 30 decibels, creating a sanctuary-like space ideal for sleeping or deep focus. But the real differentiator is the ability to switch to Engage Mode for easier conversations or Experience Mode for crisper sound at live events. This flexibility means you don't have to constantly remove and reinsert the plugs to adapt to changing noise levels, which is a significant advantage for people moving between different settings throughout the day.
The build quality focuses on precision fit. The package includes four pairs of ultra-soft silicone ear tips in sizes XS, S, M, and L. This extensive sizing range suggests a commitment to ergonomics, ensuring that whether you are an elderly person, a child, or an adult with a specific ear canal shape, there is likely a size that fits perfectly. A proper fit is critical for noise reduction performance, and having multiple options increases the likelihood of achieving that seal. The material is described as high-quality, skin-friendly soft silicone that remains comfortable even during long-term wear. Like the Afflatus, these are washable and reusable, offering a sustainable alternative to disposable foam plugs.
This product is particularly well-suited for active individuals who need their ear protection to travel with them. The inclusion of a sleek, compact carrying case with an integrated lanyard makes them incredibly portable for commuting, flying, or street use. The design is marketed as stylish and fashionable, appealing to users who care about aesthetics as much as function. Whether used for swimming, shooting, or blocking out construction noise, the Clicar system adapts to the activity. However, the requirement to insert the plugs into the ear canal means they may not be suitable for those who experience pain or irritation from anything placed inside the ear. For these users, the in-ear design, despite the soft silicone, could be a dealbreaker for overnight sleep.
• Best for side sleepers → Afflatus Ear Plugs: The non-in-ear bionic design prevents pressure points that often wake side sleepers, whereas Clicar's in-ear style might cause discomfort when pressed against a pillow.
• Best for adjustable hearing → Clicar Ear Plugs: Only Clicar offers the ability to switch between Quiet, Engage, and Experience modes, allowing you to hear conversations or music without removing the device.
• Best for customization of fit → Clicar Ear Plugs: With four distinct sizes (XS, S, M, L), Clicar provides more granular options for finding a perfect seal compared to Afflatus's two-size set.
• Best for high-frequency noise reduction → Afflatus Ear Plugs: Specifically rated for 26dB reduction, focusing on the frequencies most disruptive to sleep, such as snoring and high-pitched sounds.
• Best for portability and travel → Clicar Ear Plugs: The dedicated compact case with a lanyard makes them easier to carry in a pocket or bag compared to the standard giftbox packaging of Afflatus.
• Best for swimming and water sports → Both (with caveats): Both are waterproof, but Clicar's in-ear seal might offer slightly better water resistance for active swimming, while Afflatus relies on the external hug.
• Best for sensitive ear canals → Afflatus Ear Plugs: By avoiding the ear canal entirely, Afflatus eliminates the risk of internal irritation for users prone to otitis media or sensitivity.
• Best for varying noise environments → Clicar Ear Plugs: The ability to lower noise reduction to let in ambient sound makes Clicar superior for mixed-use scenarios like working in a cafe versus sleeping at home.
After analyzing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the Clicar Ear Plugs for my daily life, primarily because of the three-mode switching capability. While the Afflatus is a fantastic sleep tool, the ability to engage with my surroundings via the Engage Mode or enjoy crisp audio during live events makes the Clicar far more versatile. For webinars specifically, where I might need to listen intently and then quickly hear a colleague speaking, the Clicar's flexibility saves me the hassle of constant removal. That said, if your sole priority is undisturbed sleep without any pressure on the ear canal, the Afflatus remains the superior choice for that singular purpose.
