The Venice/West Los Angeles area is rich in Japanese-American culture and tradition. Japanese immigrants started settling in the area in the 1890s because they were allowed to buy property there. World War II, in the 1940s, saw Japanese-Americans forcibly removed from their homes and sent away to concentration camps. Many returned to the area after the war and re-built the wonderful Japanese-American community that exists today.
Take a trip through time to learn about the history, struggles, hardships and triumphs of Japanese Americans in this area!
This interactive experience features games, videos and other activities that will help you understand how such an amazing community came to be, appreciate the sacrifices and dedication of those who came before you, and how to keep their legacy alive so that future generations will never forget.
