Blind Contour Drawings

from Art Bar Blog

Materials:

☐ A family member or friend,

☐ watercolor paper (9x12 cut in half),

☐ marker or pencil,

☐ watercolor paint,

☐ brush,

Optional: Painter’s tape

Directions:

  1. Sit across from your subject (you can both do this at the same time).

  2. Put your paper on a hard surface like a book, clipboard, or sit at a table.

  3. Draw the other person’s portrait without lifting the pencil off the paper AND without looking at the paper.

  4. It should NOT be a perfect drawing! It is more fun if you follow the drawing instructions.

  5. Optional: Use the painter’s tape to tape the paper down to an “art-proof” surface - magazine, newspaper, any paint-friendly surface. Try to cover the margins evenly. It does not have to be perfect.

  6. Use your watercolors to paint in the shape spaces.

Tissue Paper Art

  2. Spray the canvas with water until it is quite wet.

  3. Place the tissue paper pieces on the wet board. A single layer or over lapping if you want your colors to mix.

  6. Remove and dispose of the wet tissue paper.

  7. Let the canvas dry.
